Omega General Help / Re: INCORRECT GEAR RATIO PROBLEMS HELP !!!
« on: 26 March 2010, 10:40:13 »
How many miles has the car done and has it ever towed?

Ignoring any codes your gearbox is displaying symptoms of worn clutch plates and the contaminated oil backs this up. Your symptoms appear mainly when coming out of a bend or accelerating, basically when under load.Again this points to worn clutch plates. Now of course this doesnt have to be the case but its more than likely.
Symptoms first appeared when driving the car home after purchase which again is not a good omen suggesting the car has been offloaded due to this problem.
Your quest is for an economical repair.
The fault code P0730 is also referred to as the gearbox death code due to investigations in most cases resulting in repair not viable due to cost.,worn clutch plates being one of them.
2 options. Firstly, the atf change as yours is certainly goosed but remember this is likely to be a symptom rather than the cause of the fault. You need to not just change but flush as much old oil out as possible and as the torque convertor retains a good deal of atf fluid when you drop the sumps, this means refilling and draining again at least once. I would say in your case twice and then fill again for the third time and then test the car.You need to see the fault gone at this stage not just improvement, just improvement would mean your still getting slip and gradually your going to `cook` the fluid again. If the fault goes completely, then brilliant news, don`t thrash it and it may stay happy for many more miles. So appx. 25 litres of atf fluid, new gaskets(rinse the filter)lots of mess, cursing at the number of bolts holding the sumps on and whatever £ you may be charged if your not doing it yourself.
Option 2,replacement gearbox(advertised on here between £80 -£150 recently) plus fitting, plus gaskets, filter, atf fluid, delivery of box or travelling to pick up or for fitting.
Actually there ought to be an option 3 which is cut your losses and put the car in the nearest auction(these are certainly buyer beware and you can almost expect to find an auto with a knackered gearbox)..
Good luck, you have a bit of hope with the atf change but i think your quest for an economical repair is  gone if that option doesn`t work.

Any redress with the seller?

Omega General Help / Re: 2.6 Oil Pressure Sensor
« on: 27 March 2010, 20:21:41 »
Anyway looks like one problem sorted either switch weeping a bit or camcover leak manifesting itself at that point and worst case scenario £130 ish for breathers and camcover gaskets done properly and by someone else.
Whats next on the list?

Slight leak from the oil pressure sensor is totally expected and just probably wants re-tightening. Look directly below the alternator and a bit to the right but still to the left of the large bottom crank pulley and you will see it and the sensor wiring in a sheathed cable protruding from it. Sounds like they have quoted for a new sensor. Fitting  is only a 5 minute job.

Omega General Help / Re: Crank Shaft Oil Seal
« on: 25 March 2010, 10:43:59 »
Double check there isn`t still oil residue from the previous leaking areas trickling down the rear of the engine to that low point where  the engine and the gearbox meet. Also there is a purpose design gap at this point to let seeping oil escape that weeps or flows from the rear crankseal. With the breathers blocked and the crankseal weeping there could be an accumulation of oil still to disperse out of there.Clean all the oil contaminated areas you can see with brake cleaner/degreaser and then monitor the area for new oil seeping from anywhere. Cleaning the breathers if you are lucky may have put an end to any oil seeping from the crankseal or reduced it to such a minimum you dont need `surgery`.Cleaning the areas will also let you rule out that oil is not still seeping from the half moons etc on the cam covers. There is still atf fluid leaking in that area to rule out of course.
In fact ,dont mess about listening to dodgy guess work at all, drive it immediately to Mr Darth Loo-knee at his convenience as he has already offered to help and cross his palm with silver.

You need to exchange one from another car thats running sweet to put the maf possibility to bed then,no other way without spending.

I can only state problems found with those for a nissan terrano and well echoed by other owners and that is they dont last and often are only good for 5-10 minutes running before the ecu rejects them. Also i bought an ebay one for a mercedes E200 a few years back, same issue ,ran great for 3 miles then back to a type of limp mode,in each case the genuine maf resolved the problem . It has been suggested the impedance of the internals just isn`t what it should be causing the ecu to not want to play with them anymore.Have bought from good reputable ebayers and they replace them only for the replacement to eventually do the same or immediately do the same.,its a pain in the arse sending them back, incurs costs and you end up regretting a cheap fix plus the main dealer part would normally have a 12 months warranty, more cost but peace of mind and unless you get totally perfect running with the ebay ones you cant rule out that they are not quite fixing any  problem 100%.

If the atf has gone dark then its got to be changed.if the car has ever towed then its well overdue,60k recommended .You might, only might, get lucky and your juddering symptoms may dissapear with a good atf change(x3 to get most of the old oil out).I would do that first.

Good luck and i hope you get it resolved and if something got bent when it had a knock they should be able to identify what it is .

What do you mean by caster?,sounds like you had the tracking done, possibly camber.Take it back and get the steering wheel aligned straight and tracking checked, that ought to stop it pulling to the left.

Methinks you ought to be buying a different car!

Rotate and tap didnt get me very far so i tried rotate and wallop which did the trick and knocked the discs off by hitting them from the inside with the wooden end of the hammer, obviously with some care applied so as not to tear out the handbrake innards. No need to be too shy.

Oh and write down which way the adjuster needs to travel to ease off or tighten for both sides. I forgot and continued to forget and ended up taking the discs off again rather than bugger about guessing and fiddling with the screwdriver too much.
