CCR 2006 CD Magazine problem

I have a problem with the CCR2006 CD Magazine on my 2001 CDX 2.6. The Magazine will not lock in when I enter it into the unit. This has been an intermittent problem for some time but in the past the CD changer has worked fine once it has engaged. For this reason I have not removed it for several months until now when it refuses to engage.  Any ideas on the cause and possible fixes would be most welcome.

The mechanism has the habit of twisting and deforming. No (new) spares available.

Probably best option is to get a decent second hand cdc3 from ebay, and strip the stereo down, and put the replacement mechanism into your stereo.  You MUST retain your interface control board though, else it won't work.
