EML on now
« on: 08 March 2009, 12:02:47 »

Managed to start her this morning, but after about 20 seconds of running the EML comes on. I've checked all connections that i've had apart & all the ones in the immediate area, all are ok, it's blue smoking & i can smell unburned fuel in the exhaust fumes.
All this from changing a &^%$£"! filter >:( >:( >:( >:(
It's off to the garage next week, because she's never been right from day one (under powered compared with other DTi's), but i've put up with it.
Hopefully in the hands of the diesel specialist she'll come back & perform like she should.

Sethsmate.
Gave you some good tips, have you made a good fit to the fuel filter mounted properly,is it mounted on the pressure side or suction side if suction side it could be drawing air in,if the engine is sort of running try cracking the injector pipe nuts to bleed out air. but keep yer eyes and face clear.
The blue smoke and unburnt fuel smell is the dribbles when trying to start should clear once running correctly.
Assuming the engine was running okay before you changed the filter I would double check your workmanship ie incorrect fitting `o` ring missing.
Dunno what electronic gizmos are on a modern chonker as my knowledge expired 1987 when i decided to put the spanners down.
Mind you if you want help overhauling a Gardner 6lw, 6lx, perkins, BMC 5.1 I might be able to help.
