Hi Folks,

Hope everyone is well.

Please could I just ask

- what is the latest gearbox software version for a 2002, 2.6

- while I’m asking, were there ever any updates for the engine ECU?

- lastly, assuming an update is available (especially for the TCM) who currently has T2 capability please? I seem to recall the concept of TCM update by posting the ECU was one in discussion but not sure what came of that.

Although it may be nice to grab a coffee and see an old face or two anyway

Seems I did not read properly your message, my reply referred the gearbox ecu only, sorry.

2.6/3.2 will have a GS821x TCM, and the latest software for that in V6 configuration is V8, and never got the additional enhancements added to the non DBW V6 TCMs.

The 2.2 also takes a GS821x TCM, and the latest software for that is V0A (ie, V 10).  I've never tried setting the TCM to be a 2.2, flashing 0A, then setting it back to a V6 variant.  However, I doubt it would end well.

The older GS820 went to V9, and it was the V9 that got all the smoothness enhancements.


There were some minor engine firmware updates, though you'd not notice the difference.

Not that this is much help I guess, but when my 2003 2.6 developed an engine ECU fault in March this year, it was replaced with a brand new GM unit and programmed by an VX technician whom from past experience is a whizz with GM vehicle electrical issues.
Since then, the vehicle has run much better than it ever has done previously. It is more responsive and much more enjoyable to drive. I can only assume that it was programmed with the latest software available for that particular engine / vehicle.
So my point is that with the right equipment and knowledge, you will most likely notice a difference with the latest software updates that are available (although I don't know without asking what version it was).

I've done a fair few engine ECUs on both 2.6 and 3.2, including my own, and can't say either I've noticed a difference, nor has the owner.  Not much skill is needed in doing it, you'd have to be a bit special to get it incorrect to be honest.

So in your case, I'd have to suggest that the fault on yours had probably been lingering for a while, impacting previous performance.


Back to TCMs, there are change point improvements on the later TCM softwares, so I'd always suggest doing it if you can, but it lacks the excellent refinements available on the 2.5/3.0 TCMs

I highly doubt any omega updates have come out since 2017!

I would have thought most recent would have been 2003-2005 at most at a guess!

Nope, nothing new in the last 15+ years, as you'd expect.
