Omega General Help / Re: Face lift Roof aerial gasket
« on: 11 December 2019, 11:56:02 »
eBay £2.05 + 99p postage 😁
Thanks, I don't suppose you've got a link, item number or can tell me what words you used to search for it? I have looked and nothing comes up.

Omega General Help / Face lift Roof aerial gasket
« on: 27 November 2019, 08:34:01 »
Please can anyone help me to source a new roof aerial gasket for my 2001 Omega, it is a rounded rectangular shaped base not the elliptical one that was fitted to the earlier cars and Lotus Carlton.
Mine is very perished and I'd like to prevent a leak into the car and headlining if possible.  And before anyone suggests squirting a load of black mastic around it, that is very much a last resort, especially as it is at eye level and the rest of the car is quite tidy.  Even if someone has a spare aerial base that I can use as a template to model something from for 3d printing, that might be helpful. Thanks.

A very tidy installation, and a great use of a Y32SE.  I hope you sort the mapping and driveability issues, so you can enjoy it without scaring yourself!

Was it a private purchase or from the trade? What model RR, any pics?  Thinking of a P38 as a family friendly weekend wagon, but am wary of money pits.

Whilst having a look at front geometry (too much negative camber, which causes it to tramline/bumpsteer a lot) and fitting new Lotus spec top mount washers to stiffen it up a bit, it was also pointed out that the idler arm 9095731 had a lot of play in it. When we got it off, it looks ok so it must be that the rubber bush has gone soft.  Of course a new part is NLS, so I ordered a Mevotech one (MS50901) on Thursday from Rock Auto (Cadillac Catera part) and it arrived at 12.30 on Monday £67 landed total.  In fact from the Rock Auto site also listed a Lemforder alternative (1492701), and it turns out they are available from Nottingham for £58 :-[.  New one is now fitted and seems better than the old one in terms of vertical play, which should help the bumpsteer. Now just waiting for new front discs and pads and I'll be able to give it a try. :)

I followed these two into the show (sorry I don't know the owners names), and was hoping to have a chat but sadly my pass didn't let me park anywhere near and by the time I found them there was no one around. Then I came back later and they had obviously got fed up with all the Astras and Corsas and gone home.

Well spotted!  :y
All three are indeed mind. PVS wasn't for me this year and  my family, Ended up going to the zoo  ::)
Didn't see what you was driving??

I was in a (standard) dark red MV6, I was just thinking how lucky I was to follow you in (the V8 sounded superb) when they parked me in general admission, despite the fact that I was meant to be with the MIG guys, but was 8 minutes too late.  I am trying to get to VBOA on the Sunday (we are away on holiday until then) are you going? It's at Sywell this year.

thank you. I was aware ttv did a version and I'll also approach PTT

General Car Chat / Re: £4000 for your Omega.
« on: 12 June 2019, 11:27:38 »

I paid £4500 for an Omega, now that probably does qualify me for a padded cell..!
you paid a premium , but that included a private plate, provenance of history etc
Omega prices are slowly going up for decent cared for cars.
Vauxhalls will never command the money that rusty old Fords make though , ;D
but many people pay for brand new cars and loose £5k in depreciation in one year alone  ::)
you have a £4.5k toy ,look after it and enjoy it    :)
Thanks for your reassurance, it all helps. I know it's probably the closest I'll get to a road going toy, all the others are track only. It drives better than most of the Lotus Carltons that I get to work on and look at what they are supposedly "worth".

Do Vauxhall produce anything worth buying new?  :-\
Does any mainstream manufacturer make anything worth buying new? Just been looking at the astra K 1.6 cdti estate, £27K for the elite. In three years and 30,000 miles you will get one for 8-9K.

Hard to imagine anybody being retarded enough to pay that. :-\

Yes I was intending to use a 2/12 inch Y surely that would be ok are there 2 or 4 cats on these or are the mid sections just silencers as I’m intending not to use them.
You are right a single 2 1/2" will flow the same as twin 1 7/8", and where the 2 pipes converge behind the back of the gearbox is about the right place from a pulse tuning point of view to join the two banks together. It will also generate a higher pitched note as the firing frequency will be higher (IOW it should sound nicer) Engines don't "need" back pressure, what they need is gas flow, too big a pipe at low rpm/throttle angle will not generate the gas velocity to properly scavenge the exhaust gases and will lose torque. There is a balance to be had between that requirement, and the flow at high rpm Wide Open Throttle.

Omega General Help / Re: Rear Back Plate Removal
« on: 11 June 2019, 11:55:22 »
I'd vote the back plates on Senny/Omega A and Omega B would be a 'doable fit'. I'm always on the lookout for a pair to add to my 'private parts warehouse' (shed) and were I to see a set for Omega A/Carlton I'd have got them, however there does seem to be a small difference on pics Ive found, now...

Where have you found these remanufactured ones, out of interest?

TBW Automotive in Germany seem to making them, I have got some here (Daventry, Northants) if you want to compare to Omega B.

think it was mentioned on another thread

Beautiful Omega, seen it on the Autobhanstormers website. What was the story on the MK2 SRi 130 in the back ground in one of those photos of your car?
Same seller. It sold for about £9000, which sort of prompted me into bidding on the MV6. Sri was very nice condition with a very detailed history file from it's life as a company car, saloon too which made it more attractive and rarer than the hatchback versions imho.

Omega General Help / Re: V6 Exhaust manifolds
« on: 21 May 2019, 08:12:26 »
It will be much easier to package the lengths on an Omega. :)
Does anyone know if the exhaust port shape on a 2.5 os the same as the 3.2. I know the 3.2 doesn't have secondary air injection.
