That video must must quite old, because the new market hall has been open for six months. Cinema/Bowling alley look about six months off, all the steelwork is up. The Alhambra shopping centre, included in the video, has been there for years and is always busy.
Car parking is £1.80 for two hours, Lizzie.
I only go into town once in a while, and always on the busiest day, Saturday. But it is always busy. Something in it's favour is that Wakefield city centre, only ten miles away, has died a death and a lot of folk come into Barnsley. It has a real old fashioned market feel, I think it will do well.....just not from me. ;D

I wonder where the money came from? EU perhaps?  ::)

So if I get the Volvo serviced at Riverside Volvo in Wakefield what are the chances of getting a (direct) bus to Barnsley and you will buy me a coffee in the town centre?

riverside are on BARNSLEY road, the bus stop isnt far and runs into the middle of Barnsley, the locals are friendly but you will never understand a word,

A lot of the problems stem from a "perfect storm" of small things,
I have read the reports and followed this (I’m in Building Control)
the separate compartments were compromised by damaged doors on corridors, snd holes in the floor/ceiling left unsealed when they installed gas a while back, so the stay put advice wouldn’t work like it should,
the building was clad in a material that was only approved to be used up to a few story’s,(but £500k cheaper) the windows were fitted in the outer cladding, which fell off, the gap behind the cladding should have had fire barriers every floor to stop spread of flames.
The lack of sprinklers was apparently because they didn’t expect the system to last long due to vandalism.

One fault after another, plus the fact no one knew exactly who was actually living there due to sub letting etc.

this guy had 2 houses being knocked into one, between them they had about 10 kids,

a few had "syndromes" so he was carer for them his wife was his carer, they had 2 free cars,
he told me he got £30k in payments.
to earn that he would need nearer £50k

other than being well overweight there was nothing stopping him working.

a mates wife said she was cold, he told her to go down the garden to the shed and "fetch a bag of coal"

when she got back, he said "not that one" she went back and swapped it,

as she got back to the house he asked "Are you warm yet?"

we had the "do" after at the local golf club, loads of butties, pork pie and beer,
I left before two of the girls had a punch up,

sad, as they are both good mates of mine.
I would have had to get between them. :D
