Also mentions a £2500 fine if driving an unroadworthy vehicle and get stopped, I think this is aimed at folk who are isolating because of health, test stations are still open but have been instructed not to print certificates to avoid cross contamination :y

Be interesting to see if the Insurance companies make an announcement about this, or use it against you if you're unfortunate to make a claim.

Our Freelander runs out this weekend, I forgot,
rang the mot place yesterday lunchtime, "bring it in in an hour"
he tested it while I put the kettle on for everyone and made coffees, car passed.

says he is quiet.

my thoughts exactly  :y

plus half the cars on the road with a current MOT have bad tyres, lights out, broken springs etc etc
so not "roadworthy" as per the requirement
so if the Government want all cars on the road actually roadworthy ,that is a massive strain to put on garages right now   ;D :D

BBC:

The Department of Transport said the move won't hit any insurance claims during the period because they will be effectively extending MOT certificate meaning they will remain valid for insurance purposes.
The new law will be introduced on 30 March when it will come into immediate effect for 12 months.

yep
so the insurance assessors role will be to go over the car with a fine tooth comb and find anything to prove the car was being driven in an "un-roadworthy condition"   ;D
no screen wash, number plate bulb out ,serious stuff  :D

I don't think so, I think insurance companies will play the game just like everyone else. They should still make shed loads of cash, because folk will still pay their premiums and there will be far fewer cars on the road.
We've had one member leave because of people's fatalistic attitude, it gets a bit boring after a while.

Just called the MOT test centre.

Apparently I am now covered to 14th October 2020. Crazy times we live in. Saved forty quid. :y

Signum in excellent order so no worries there.

depends how you feel about it, as to how safe your car is  , and if there is a MOT cancellation charge
if you want to keep journeys to a minimum ,you could leave it
the tester may have a cough ,you might have covid 19 and feel fine  :-\
but you just replied anyway  ;D

This move must be manner from heaven for people who own a wreck that has no chance of passing the test.......and I hope I don't meet them on the road.

The Signum is is good order though so I'm happy to exploit the opportunity. :y

Don't know why people leave it to the very last minute anyway I always put ours in as soon as possible but hey that's commonsense.
