Neutral without starting
« on: 30 January 2007, 21:27:36 »

Need to do some work under the passenger side of the car but that side is near a wall. The car won't start so I can't move it - it also won't let me put it in neutral to push it! Is there any way to get the car in neutral without starting it?
Cheers,
Andy

Auto? Ign on, foot on brake, move gearstick.

If battery disconnected, lift out gaiter and you will see the yellow park lock solenoid...

As simple as that eh?! Now you mention it I do recall having to use the brake first to change the gear in happier car-working times!
Many thanks!

Blimey! I don't know which was heavier, pushing the car or trying to turn the steering wheel! All done though now cheers.

Funny you should mention that, when my 2.2 died in the garage one night (flat battery) I could not move it, was in neutral and hand break off but could not move it 1cm.

When the Senator was in the same side, i was too close to open the bonnet. I pushed my leg in there and managed to rock it back about 3"  :-/ :-/

2.1 ton car thats an auto in Park is easier to push than a 1.7 ton car!!  ;D ;D
