High level (3rd third) brake light not working.
« on: 31 October 2010, 08:45:50 »

Just joined the forum and went to my first meet at Oxford yesterday and been PM'd by a couple of OOFers to let me know my high level brake light is not working (only noticed as I was leaving of course - doh!).

I've had a quick look but through fear of breaking something I can't even work out how to access it. Any help gratefully received, thanks.

Phil.

Its integral to the upper plastic trim at back of headlining.

If its getting power when brakelights are on, just change the trim piece.  I have one here (deepest Brackley) you have have if you need one (I'm assuming mine works ;D)

Thanks to you both RobG and The Boy. I've got it out - I was just afraid of breaking something but thanks to Rob's reassurance I pulled a bit harder! I'll be in touch if it's not working, thanks.

Thanks for your tip too mahony. Unfortunately it's raining and I have no cover so all work has stopped for now! On the upside I have removed my offside sill covers to carry out the boot fix I found on the forum and my wife has cleaned them all for me and I found a 2p piece under there! Happy days. ;D

Many thanks to you all for your help and offers of a replacement. I managed to work out how to pull it all apart and just as mahony suggested, the solder connection to one of the wires was cracked. A new blob of solder and hey presto, it's working fine now.
