Omega General Help / Re: Oil filter conversion Part Number
« on: 01 May 2018, 11:37:13 »
I agree but would like to have the pieces ready just incase, the last person to do the oil change which looks like a mechanic at quick fit tightened it up to much. Hopefully the top will undo without the rest of the body trying to turn, in which case I will stay with the paper cartridge. I have the proper socket for the nut and will use a chain wrench to hold the body as undoing it as suggested else where, just don't want to try and undo it and find it doesn't undo and the body move instead and starts to leak between the engine block and housing. Or even worse the top breaks.

Thanks for the advice.

Omega General Help / Oil filter conversion Part Number
« on: 01 May 2018, 10:16:28 »
Can someone tell me if this is the correct part, for the conversion from paper cartridge to normal oil filter.  This is the part number VAUXHALL FITTING - 90144360, this is the part I was told fits and is a direct replacement for the 90412159 by vauxhallpartsuk-ltd? I have also looked for the seal between the housing and engine block and cannot find it, as was told no longer sold.
I have a 2002 2.6, with the paper cartridge but after all the stories about the body turning and other stories, when trying to undo the top and not knowing the full history of my car, I was thinking of converting to screw on filter, while doing a oil change.

Thanks in advance for all help.

Can anyone tell me if the old bolts that hold the oil pan on, need new ones or if the old ones can be used? I have read up about the removal of it and refitting, the instructions say that it needs new bolts. What is the Torque setting for the bolts.  Also can I leave the Oil level sensor?

Thanks for any help.

Always used semi synthetic 10w/40 on all my omegas. Checked the oil level today, it is ok on the stick.  The sump has no gasket, just grey goo. Checked it today at tick over and it sounded like it normally does, also no oil light flicker. Will do oil and filter change. If have nice weather (which doesn't happen often in Scotland ;D) then will also take off sump to check pickup.

Thanks for all the help.

I was going to purchase one, but will leave it now. Thanks for that advice, saved me. Will still do oil/filter change

What are the best sump gasket, one from Vauxhall or any OEM make for my year and engine?

Thanks for the help. I am going to purchase a oil pressure meter, what should the pressure be in PSI? I have found that The oil pressure should be approx. 150 kPa (1.5) at idle speed, did a conversion to PSI and it came up with 21.75psi approx. Is this the correct psi for a 2002 2.6 engine.

The Famous "Check Oil Level" never came up.  I remember on my old Omega, the first time that message appeared I wandered what was happening.  ;D

Thanks for the replies. Yes it was sunny up here today, that is why I was going up the Braes to see the view (best laid plans :D). As said it has never done it before. I am doing a oil service as a precaution. I thought it might be the outside temperature and the climb upsetting it, needed someone to say it could be.

Thanks again.

Hi wander if anyone can help. I went out today and when I went up a steep hill (Gleniffer Braes, Average grade: roughly 7 %), near to me. The car was fine untill I got about half way up, then the oil light flickered dimly. So I turned round and nursed it slowly down, when back on level ground it still flickered dimly every now and then. Switched it off and left it for around 3/4 hours, started it and drove home slowly watching for the light. It didn't come back on. I then had to move it slightly from where it was parked, Oil and all other lights went out and stayed off. Now waiting for a while to check the oil level, even though no warning came up for it. Could it have been that with the incline and maybe the oil being hot from the climb and  low but not enough for the warning to come up on the display, going slightly to the back of the sump causing it? The temperature gauge only rose a little bit from where it is normal, then came back down to normal and stayed there when driving down and back home.

Any suggestions will be gratefull. I hope it is simply due to the climb and it isn't something drastic.  Don't seem to be having much luck with FL models, always had PFL and had no where as much trouble.

Thanks

General Car Chat / Does anyone do body panels anymore?
« on: 11 April 2018, 13:41:42 »
I have been looking online for body panels, such as full sills for Omegas. I cannot seem to find any. Does no body do Aftermarket ones for them? I can find body panels for older make vauxhalls. It just seems a bit crazy, considering the places that the were exported to.

Just out of interest, loctite now do a new red stud locker loctite 263, they say it Replaces LoctiteŽ 270 and LoctiteŽ 271 formulations.

I haven't done the conversion yet, just looking into doing it. And sorting out prices.

General Car Chat / Re: spotted silver saloon m8 glasgow airport
« on: 06 April 2018, 09:37:47 »
Just noticed this. I live next to Glasgow Airport and the wife sometimes borrows my Omega, when she is using the M8. It is a silver saloon and has chrome wheel arch protectors on it. Not saying it was her.

Omega General Help / Part to change over to screw on oil filter
« on: 04 April 2018, 17:27:43 »
I am looking to convert my 2002 2.6 to screw on filter. After trying different places, for the threaded part PN 90412159. Vauxhall Superstore have said this part will work. vauxhallsuperstore.co.uk/product/Connector_90144360 can anyone tell me if it will work?

Thanks in advance

I replaced drivers front caliper for the same reason. Sticking caliper, it was as simple as changing the pads.  Undo the flex hose from caliper. I used the proper hose clamp but tightened just enough to restrict flow, then lifted it up once disconnected from the caliper. Undid the two guide bolts, 13mm socket and 17mm spanner to undo them.  11mm on the flex hose to caliper bolt. Then it is a reverse when putting new one on. I replaced the two copper seals when fitting the banjo bolt on, they can be got from the local dealer cheap. Make sure the hose isn't twisted when refitting. Then it is a matter of bleeding the brakes the way you like. 9mm spanner.

Took me about 1/2 hour including stopping for rain break.
