My problem is that I don't feel that confident. Need someone to watch over me, or someone who could do it and not mind me watching.

Hoping to keep this one for a long time.

Well I went to see the omega, took a torch and had a good poke around underneath, it all seems OK. Checked the wheel arches, looked in oil filler tube on engine, the coolant overflow tank for anything crap in it. Everything was fine for both. Took it for a drive, couldn't hear the engine when it started up, the gears change up and down great. The go fast pedal works great, got to remember it moves quicker than a 4 pot. LOL.  Thanks everyone for your advice, time will tell if everything stays OK, but for now one happy 2.6 owner.

Could anyone recommend anyone or a garage near to Paisley Scotland, that can do a Timing belt on a 2002 2.6 Omega Saloon? I am going to see a 2.6 today, but I would like to get a new timing belt put on for my own piece of mind. I can get the timing belt kit, either Gates or Contitech. I don't have the confidence to change it myself. I don't want to ruin the engine by making a mistake.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Tunnie, for the spots to look for. The spec is CD it has roughly 97000 miles on it. The bodywork looks OK from the photos, I have seen. It has had a complete exhaust system for the MOT. I am going to see it today. I know that the brake pipes always seem to come up in MOT tests, so will check them. Do they leak oil around the cam covers, in the same places as the old V6's?  I am hoping to find someone near me in Paisley Scotland, who could do a cambelt and waterpump change. That way I know the belt is done, I can get the Gates or Contitech belt kit with adjusters and waterpump, just need someone who can fit them for me.

Hopefully will be getting it, if everything checks out.

Thanks for all the help.

Omega General Help / What to look for on 2002 2.6 saloon when buying
« on: 14 February 2018, 21:56:35 »
Can anyone tell me what to look for on a 2002 2.6 Saloon, things like rust areas and other problem areas?
Are they DBW?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for suggestion. The annoying thing is that it has just passed MOT. Body work is in good condition, no banging or strange noises. Drives great when working.  Just used to the old 2.5 Omegas, never had any trouble with them. Even the wifes 1995 2.0 Omega is better behaved. ;D

If it costs silly money to sort, will look at a V6 seen a nice 02 for sale, good price and MOT History looks OK.

Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't think a engine could cause so much aggro.

Took car out today. It drove great parked up at my mums for a while. When I went to start it, the engine light came on (not spanner one), and it ran as if missfiring. Got it home, checked codes P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit No Signal, and P1700 SVS request via CAN. So I cleared them and tried starting the car, the engine light came on again with same codes. Cleared them again and let it run for a while, then it felt lumpy as if missfiring, checked the codes and got a new one, P0351 - Ignition Coil 1 Incorrect Signal. I have changed both Cam and Cranksensor with Genuine Vauxhall ones (From local Dealer) not so long ago. Also was getting missfire on Cylinder 1 error code, after I had done both sensors, so changed Coilpack and new plugs.  Does anyone know what could be causing these to appear again? When I was doing Camsensor I checked all the timing marks and they all lined up. Removed the MAF connector and the car dropped a few revs.

Thanks in advance. If I cann't sort it then going to big carpark in the sky and I will get a V6. Are the new V6 DBW and how reliable are they?

534
Local dealer, don't get sensors off ebay. Anything that doesn't affect running, for example airfilter, plugs etc. I use ebay. Learnt this from having a Jeep that didn't like aftermarket sensors.

535
Just changed cam and crankshaft sensor(with genuine), upon recommendation from Doctor Gollum. Also ignition coil and plugs, no oil in plug wells.

It's a learning curve with this engine, my old 1995 ones were V6 and no where near as stroppy as this, nor is my wifes 1995 2.0 estate. So would the fact that it is showing just above 1/4 of a tank cause problems such as sounding like no petrol when trying to start?

Sorry for all the questions.

536
Will check the pipes Terry Paget. It's annoying because it is a great car when running.

Is this the valve, I have got a fuel pressure guage to check for pressure and if bleed down of fuel. If I disconnect what I assume is the clear vacuum pipe what should I see on the fuel pressure gauge, I will only do it for a few seconds. Would doing this give me a idea if it is working or not?

Not sure if this might apply, found it on TIS the car sits on the side of the road and it is a reasonable camber where the road meets the pavement, if that makes sense. The petrol gauge on mine and the misses' don't show correct fuel in the tank, when parked up.

Poor starting. Engine does not start in sloping position and low fuel level in fuel tank.. (The fuel gauge when level is showing 20)
Cause: New fuel pump EKP 13.5 (turbine pump) cannot build up pressure, in case of no fuel available to suck in swirl pot.
Production: Following VIN range was affected: Omega B: Rüsselsheim, from W0L0VBM69X1093137 up to W0L0VBF3511003864

The Vin on mine is : W0L0VBM351***1272

Sorry for all the questions. Can someone tell me if a 2001 2.2 Omega has a fuel check valve. The reason I ask is that when I start the car in the morning,or I leave it for a few days it seems as if the car has run out of petrol. (it has a 1/4 tank of petrol) It takes a while to start causing a Camshaft sensor error code, (I have replaced Cam and Crankshaft sensors, with genuine one done plugs and coil pack also genuine. Once the car is running it goes great. I can turn the car off then restart it without any problems.

Thanks in advance, for all help. This car is getting more like Christine each day, you sort one thing then something else happens. LOL

Thanks for the reply Dan552, do you happen to know the part Numbers for the filter and gaskets?

Omega General Help / Re: 2.2 Sport Auto, Gearbox query/issue
« on: 28 January 2018, 23:16:27 »
First welcome to the group. I asked on here about my 2.2 with gearbox problems, and was getting a Camshaft error code aswell as gearbox. I was told to change cam and Crankshaft sensors, which I have now done. The gearbox had a fluid, filter and gearbox computer done before I purchased it. Since changing both the Cam and Crank sensor, I have had no problems with gearchanges (touch wood). I think from what I can gather the gearbox uses these for working out when to change up and down (someone will be along to correct me and explain to you). Just for information the Crankshaft sensor was not throwing any codes, just the Cam sensor. Upon advise from here I changed the Crankshaft sensor aswell and the car seems OK for now. I am not sure if it is the same on the facelift models, but my wifes '95 2.0 Omega seems to take ages from cold to change up, it says this is natural in her owners manual.
Good luck with sorting it.
