Removing Vectra/Signum wiper arms
« on: 13 August 2023, 17:04:18 »

Do I need some sort of puller, because despite plenty of WD40 after removing the nut under the cover they won't shift?

Put a piece of baton under the wiper arm near to the hinge point and while holding the wiper arm down, rock the piece of timber gently up and down. Try to rock it against the scuttle rather than the windscreen. The aim is to rock the hinge section, not to brutally lever the arm off.  :y

Similar to YZ, I repeatedly press down on hinge area. It will eventually loosen.  No real force is needed (or wanted, as you could bugger it)

Thanks chaps.

I'm pretty sure these wiper arms have it in for me. ::)

One of the 'press on' bars that are part of the wiper mechanism keeps coming adrift so the wipers get tangled in more of a twist than the proverbial girls knickers.

I tried all of the above when trying to remove the driver's side wipe arm of my R Class, &  I tried to rock the lower part with a small adjustable spanner to release it off the taper. A cheapo wiper arm puller failed miserably ....&  I ended up using a ball joint puller to remove it!

Giving the arm a tap from the side of the spindle can help.

I'm guessing it is the original wiper arm from 2007 and has never been removed before.

Just ordered a puller from Amazon prime. If it's as useless as the one Andy Beanz used they won't quibble about a refund.

Should be fine. :y

I've always got by with a cheap Amazon puller.

My method is to put some tension on with the puller and then give the spindle end of the arm a light tap with a hammer. That little shock is usually enough to pop them off.

I've never owned, or felt the need to own, a puller.  Even tough ones eventually give in to gentle wiggling of the hinge area within a couple of minutes...
