In between the torrential rain here, removed airbox, bagpipes and aux belt. Can now see the alternator and (assuming I have scrounged the right size spanner) tomorrow morning I'll pull it off and strip to the regulator so I can order a replacement.  :y

Clamped it very tight in vice, heated as hot as I could with a heat gun, got a big pair of stilsons on the end, it unscrewed very nicely. This was the outer end. Did the same with the inner end, pushed hard on the stilsons, it rounded the "nut" section in the centre of the rod and chewed up the visible threads while it was at it. Its officially shagged. Need a new pair.  :'(

So that's 'heated' it enough that you couldn't touch it?

As BG posted, it needs to be red hot to be worth bothering with.

I have a reg. I can pop in the post if you have any trouble. :y

Rear bolt on the alternator is tricky to get to. Socket with a long extension worked for me, from above, with the expansion tank moved aside. 15mm IIRC?

No facilities to heat it red hot, so had a go with what I had.  ;)

Fitted a tow bar to a colleagues Kia Sedona...

Only six bolts and some wiring ::)

Turns out that the rear valance is hardened steel and the wiring changes colour between the body loom and the light cluster, but otherwise a breeze :-X

Said goodbye to one of them:

I will really, really miss that truck. (Picture taken yesterday after a friend came over to buff out a few scratches - the paintwork came up beautifully once we got all the tree sap off it.. damn trees, dropping sap, making all our oxygen and stuff!)

Finished removing the alternator, pulled the regulator off and ordered a replacement for am delivery tomorrow. Just in time as it started raining again!

Right... I think I've earned a swim :y
