Just a bit of further input if its any use, when changing my alt, once i disconnected the hoses at the front i made a couple of slots in the battery tray with junior hacksaw and carefully bent it upwards - gave me an extra 3-4 inches clearance and proved enough to lift and turn the alt to lift it out. Gotta say it went back in alot easier than it came out!! with the slots made in the tray it bent back into place without needing a sledgehammer!!

Hi all, had a quick shufty through previous threads on here but no joy as yet so here goes, i recently popped a Kenwood head unit in my 2.5td Mig along with a 10 disc changer in the boot. Everything works fine and dandy but is there any way i can link things up so the didgi display shows more than just the clock/temp, and i can start using the steering wheel buttons???

I have just discovered a problem with my 99 Elite as I'm now not using it daily.

It seems to be draining the battery after 2/3 days. I had bought a new battery on a Thursday and it was flat by Saturday - although it had done a few miles on the Friday. Took the battery back and it did have a bad cell. That was replaced on Wednesday of this week. Flat this morning (Saturday)

Alternator seems to charge fine once it's going

Any ideas please? I did read here about disconnecting the power sounder to the alarm

Sounds a bit obvious, but have you checked the boot lght aint permanently on? Cos that little so and so caused me no end of battery trouble.

Does it feel like theres a kind of `blind spot` in the steering where it almost feels disconnected. Mine felt like that and needed constant correction in a straight line. It was the idler on mine , but you could actually see the freeplay. Spot on once new idler was fitted.

To be honest its worth jacking the front up and giving the wheels a shake back and forth holding at 3-9 o`clock and 12-6 o`clock. If the freeplay is anything other than minimal get `em looked at.

Hello mate, the simplest way is to give the glass a good old rub with some t-cut or similar. Add a bit of elbow grease and they`ll come up loverly!

If you can smell diesel around the engine bay it could well be a break in one or more of the leak-off pipes. Pop the plastics off the top of the intake and have a nosy underneath. The short braided pipes can sometimes leak from either end, or can go brittle and split. Give each a little wiggle with the engine running and you`ll soon see a leak if theres one there. They`re easy replaced, and kits are available for less than a fiver in Halfrauds.

hi to u all again i was just wondering if theres anyway of telling if my td elite is ex plod or not,i read somewere on the forum that all elites had leather interior although mines hasnt,also all my doors weigh a ton and its like a work out every time u want to open the door!!!armor plated perhaps

Plod never Used The diesel omega!

If an MX5 beats a 2.6 V6 and an auto 3litre then i dont think the police would of stood anychance in a 2.5td!

Police speedos are calibrated to get exact readings, should have a little sticker saying IRS NOTTINGHAM and actually say calibrated by irs nottingham on the face. Sorry to say but police cars didnt have sunroofs.

Well i had an ex-plod Carlton GSI24v, and that had the lot - calibrated speedo, leccy windows, mirrors, sunroof, half leather trim, inter-galactic milage the lot. I`d probly still have it now if i hadnt ploughed it into the side of the Tyne Bridge.

Thanks for the responses chaps, seems like a 50/50 split with opinions for and against - got to be honest, the same thoughts i had. My main concern was if the engine would`ve come to any harm from using the cherry, from what i`ve gathered from you guys that probly wont be an issue. So now its more a question of risking being dipped. Hmmm heads or tails . . . . . .  :-/ :-/

Ok, well ive been to look over a Tractor Estate this evening, GLS but hardly a mark on it for its age - 1998. Its got 167k on the clock but still pulls on ok. BUT (and its a BIG BUT) the guy has taken the Tractor tag a bit too literally and has been regularly running the old girl on the RED stuff!! .
Should i make my excuses and exit stage left, or does she still have a chance? The guy is askin a fair price, but is the damage already done? :-/ :-/
