2 broken studs on exhaust manifold
« on: 27 September 2014, 20:35:53 »

 :'(   hi guys

I worked on my omegas  2.2 exhaust manifold only to find 2 broken studs not happy..
I have put brand new studs in the ones i have got out but cannot get the 2  broken ones out.
as time was against me I put holts fire gum  where the 2 studs should be and put the car back together for the time being.
is there anyone who can help me get the studs out  as I honestly do not know where to start. I will pay for your time if not does anybody know where a good honest garage is that will do it.

cheers guys

Is there anything of the old stud left? ie a bit you could get hold of with mole grips or a stud extractor?  :-\

If there is any rod sticking out, an expert will weld a rod to it, and unscrew it. I think the heat of the electric welding frees it. My MOT tester prides himself on this trick. I imagine there is someone up your way who can do it.

Hi guys

Unfortunately no they are in the  head needs drilling.
but not too far in. I am worried that the firegum will fail and release dangerous fumes into the car.
when the family are in it..

Cheers

I think you have no great worries about fumes in the cabin as there is too much air gap around the engine. the studs are a pain to get at but reasonably doable with half decent tools, the drill bit I would be inclined to use would be cobalt treated or something similar.
