A mate of mine took his 2006 Land-rover Discovery to them as they were £1000 cheaper than dealer to replace clutch and flywheel. They messed him about for over a week and then it was finally ready. Seemed to be fine then clutch seized on motorway. Got it trailered back to Mr Clutch who are now saying it is transfer box (joint and centre bearing failure) that has caused problem. He has told them he doesn't believe them and now waiting for area manager to comment. Any thoughts as to whether their conclusion is reasonable?

I sent a family member's French P.O.S for a clutch to another company (not Mr Clutch)
 because i was busy and really didn't fancy doing the job 
initial quote was about £330
they then said it needed a new gearbox which it didn't ,another £350 for a "recon box" 
got it back and had clutch judder within days
I looked and only one bolt was holding the gearbox to the engine and it had sagged ,bent the input shaft
they had it back and "repaired it " the same day 
they must have just found some bolts and bolted it back together ,with the bent shaft, still had clutch judder when it was returned 
few days later it failed to start for us to take it back, they came out and fitted a starter motor gratis because i complained a lot on the phone 
few days later it wouldn't start , i went and looked , they had not fitted the earth strap to the gearbox during the work, subsequently the starter had been pulling it's earth path via the engine loom and fried it 

with a fried loom, knackered gearbox input shaft etc we demanded a refund in full
no joy ,so did a section 75 charge back with the credit card company who refunded in full including some money for a hire car etc

picked up a Zafira A tractor for £500 ,put about £200 into it in new brakes ,service etc. got about £180 for the french P.O.S off an internet scrap collector  .job jobbed

2 lessons learned .

1: don't farm out jobs to garages ,the time to fix what they break is longer than DIYing the first repair   
2: insist the family all drive Vauxhall or fix it themselves

The first piece of advice I was given when I bought the Land Rover  was to find a good independent who knows these vehicles inside out , they are specialised vehicles not to be entrusted to these "gorillas" employed  by  places like Mr Clutch.

new Vauxhall parts are cheap,
plenty of Vauxhalls about means plenty are being scrapped and salvage parts are available
we have many of the tools required to work on Vauxhall ,
not that many special tools required ,unlike some marques .
relatively speaking Vauxhall are easy to work on compared to other marques
plenty of information on how to fix vauxhalls thanks to forums like the OOF ,which is excellent
