Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Airbag fault
« on: 15 June 2009, 09:43:45 »
Hi all,

Not posted for a while as I have been snowed under. The Polac has an airbag fault with the telltale being permanently illuminated.

I borrowed a diag lead and used the "My Naff Code Reader" demo software that gives "Driver Airbag Squib High Resistance" as the fault. Look at the data, the resistance is 6.6 ohms where as the passenger side is under 2 ohms.

I assume that this is refering to the steering wheel airbag as there is also information relating to "Driver Side Airbag" which I assume are the one in the seats.

I have changed the airbag to no avail and oddly the resistance doesn't change if I completely remove the sterring wheel airbag.

The only curved ball is that I have had the light on since I had all of the interior including the dash out last year. I would have thought a trapped or severed wire would give a different.

Do any of you Omega wizards have any ideas please?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: CCRT 700 Dead!
« on: 08 March 2007, 12:08:13 »
I'm not a fan of boost jumping on cars with so much electronics as it can have undesired results (power spikes etc.. As already suggested, check for dead fuses although if the fuse for the radio circuit is dead I would expect other features of the car to not be working.

I can't remember but there may be a seperate fuse on the rear of the head unit. Do you have a local friend with an Omega that you can try the unit in?

I have just taken one of these out of a 1998 saloon. I would imagine that the loom would replace the existing car harness that runs along the offside sill. The connector should hook up to the dash loom behind the kick panel in the driver's footwell.

I'll let you know hwo I get on. I have a monochrome display for an NCDC 2013 that I am going to try in my polac.

That has a fuel computer and check control on it.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. You shouldn't have to touch the top end of the engine (i.e. cylinder heads) as the crank is on the bottom end. I suspect the engine would have to come out though as you will need to remove the sump to get to the big end caps and the crank itself.

I am not familiar with the 2.0 engine but surely the driveplate would bolt to the crank shaft from the outside so removing the gearbox/torque converter would be the route to take?

If this is the case, the heads of the bolts will have sheared and the studs should be accesible from the gearbox end of the engine with the gearbox removed.

Just a thought.

Omega General Help / Re: Omega self levelling suspension query
« on: 02 September 2009, 17:07:52 »
Cheers for all of the replies. I had the car in the garage today and it measures 64 cm from floor to bumper line.

It turned out to be a severed wire for the deflate valve in the pump. I have now repaired the wire and all is good. He won't be too pleased when I tell him he needs a couple of new rear tyres.

He has had new springs and shocks fitted. He is saying the levelling pumps up a little each time the car is driven but never goes down so consequently ends up looking like a bath chair.

It was my assumption that it is similar to the Lotus Carlton set up where the height is adjustable based in a lock nut on the sensor arm that allows the sensor arm to be moved independantly of the potentiometer.

One of my neighbours has a 2.2 DTi Elite (51 reg) whose self levelling suspension doesn't appear to be working. I suspect that the pump is stuffed as it isn't letting the air out (vent chamber full of ally oxide??). I am going to look at the pump for him but I need to know what the set up procedure is for the levelling sensor. Does anyone have any ideas?

There are other ways of cutting fuel bills without losing the V6

Indeed but with 1 under 3 year old and another on the way a loss of boot spce is not an option and or is no spare wheel. My Mrs. wouldn't let me buy an LPG MV6 a year ago.  :-[

I assume that the only major differences between the 2.2 DTi Elite and 3.2 Elite are manual, no TC, no leather and no nav as standard?.
petrol/diesel .... & 2 cylinders!!  ;)

.. and a few ponies missing from under the bonnet [smiley=evil.gif]

Thanks all. I am just trying to gauge what they are like. I own two 3 litres and have had two 3.2s, the latter I found excessively thirsty and just wanted to know about the refinement and economy over a mix driving. The brochure states 38 - 39 mpg for the combined average which isn't too bad.

I assume that the only major differences between the 2.2 DTi Elite and 3.2 Elite are manual, no TC, no leather and no nav as standard?

Do the facelift Elites still have a sun blind? The 03 brochure implies it doesn't.

This is just a speculative enquiry but I have been looking through a 2003 Omega brochure and noted that the 2.2DTi is reasonably frugal (38-39 mpg combined) and I was wondering if anyone has any real-life experience of them and was willing to share their thoughts please?

I think you can buy them for about £4 each from Motaquip if that helps, it may be worth asking before spending Vx money.

My pre-facelift has an issue with the ECC controller. They seem to be fairly fragile. I either got hot or cold and nothing in between. A replacement controller shouldn't be mega money from a breakers.

Omega General Help / Re: ABS Light
« on: 26 July 2006, 08:04:30 »
Not sure whether the ABS on Omegas has a memory as such and either needs clearing by Tech 2 or a battery disconnect to extinguish the light?

A common thing, as others have said, on Senators/Calrtons is the surge arrestor relay. Have you hit any debris at any point as the wheel sensors are sensitive to the distance from the sensor pickup (cogged bit)
