Omega General Help / TD Stat and water pump
« on: 21 January 2009, 15:23:55 »
How long would it take to replace the stat and water pump on the TD engine
Reason for asking is I don't fancy doing it myself and just want to get a rough idea on possible costs/time labour wise from someone who has replaced theirs.
Infact the pump should be ok but because the stat needs replacing may as well do the pump as well, what do you think?

Omega General Help / Re Chipped TD's
« on: 20 October 2008, 15:54:31 »
Can anyone whoose had there TD chipped tell me if the computer read out particularly the consumption figures are still accurate.
In other words am I still to believe the figures now showing is what they reflect the fuel the car is using.

The reason is I am getting 37 mpg towing a 1460kg caravan,  before the chip it was somewhere around the 26-28 mark if I was lucky.

And those figures are towing around the Peak District, who knows what it's going to achieve on mainly flat motorway driving.

What's the difference between Facelift CDX and Elite alloys....is it just the size or do they look different.

Omega General Help / Tractor themostat
« on: 02 October 2008, 19:04:12 »
I have known for a while that the stat needs replacing on my TD, temp gauge hardly moves sometimes.
Is it a complicated job removing everything to get at it or fairly straight forward. Also would it be a good idea to change the water pump whilst I'm in there, any special tools for that job. And finally after market parts or GM ones recommended.
I have seen some after market parts @ Vauxhall Parts Warehouse on Ebay, any good?

« on: 05 September 2008, 17:46:21 »
With the correct cruise control stalk (2 wire) will a pre facelift stalk off a TD fit my facelift TD?

And what price would I expect to pay new from dealer?

Omega General Help / Sump Plug problems
« on: 13 December 2007, 18:44:38 »
Changed the oil on the estate (2.5TD) today but have a problem
Came to refit the sump plug and it just won't re-tighten properly seems it started stripping the threads.
Now when I came to remove the plug to drain down the plug was loose, so it seems like it was may have been like this on the last oil change, which was done on the main service not by me.
Anyway is this easily fixable or expensive and a new sump pan required. Can it be re threaded with a larger plug inserted.
It seems to be holding the oil in, but I will recheck it tomorrow, I don't want it to work loose though and start dripping.

Omega General Help / Changing Oil 2.5TD
« on: 26 November 2007, 19:03:01 »
Going to change the engine oil on my 2.5TD. I've seen the oil change mantainance guides for my model, and it says use filter part no 93180093.  Can those more knowledgeble tell if this is the correct filter, BTW it's a facelift year 2000 model http://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/acatalog/93180093N_2.jpg Also will this air filter fit or do I need a different one for the TD http://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/acatalog/Omega-Air-Filters.html.....And finally what's the best oil for the diesel I think it's had 10/40 semi synthetic before.

Omega General Help / Reverse light switch
« on: 11 October 2007, 14:35:56 »
Got a slight problem with the reverse lights sometimes not coming on straight away when engaging reverse gear. Most noticeable when it's cold weather, not a problem in summer months. So what could it be, sticking switch? And before I try and find the switch...where is it, please point me in the right direction before I start scrambling under the car looking for it. BTW it's a facelift 2.5TD estate.

Omega General Help / Rear tyre scrub
« on: 05 November 2007, 01:01:14 »
What would cause rear tyre scrub? It's only the n/s rear inside edge that's seems to be wearing down faster than the rest of the tyre. All other tyres are wearing evenly. There's no leaks from the shockers, they appear ok and the springs look ok.

« on: 29 July 2007, 00:26:56 »

Omega General Help / Advice re gear selection
« on: 26 May 2007, 22:53:43 »
I have a manual 2000 TD estate on 98000 miles. Question is do all the manual gearboxes this age and mileage get a little difficult to select 1st gear when cold?  Mine is ok when at normal operating temp but can get a little difficult to select 1st when cold. ...It can also be difficult sometimes to select reverse also when cold. No problems at all once car is warming up, gear selection is fine. Clutch seems ok, don't think it's that.

Omega General Help / Diesel chip tuning
« on: 09 May 2007, 14:44:39 »
Hi to all and thanks for the welcome. Hope I can get some good advice re my 2.5 TD.
I have had the Omega now for around 8 months and so far very pleased with it. Well I say so far it's in for it's MOT today so fingers crossed there.
Was wondering if I can improve the performance with one of these plug & play tuning devices or have it re-mapped. I am not  very technically minded just want some advice from other TD owners whether it's worth it or should I leave well alone. Will it do any long term damage to the engine? I suppose it depends which device and what I actually have done really.
Also a minor niggle, since I had a replacement exhaust, middle and rear sections I have had this annoying vibration coming from somewhere underneath. I only get the vibration when the engine is idling it's goes under normal driving conditions. I have had another new exhaust on after being told it was the centre section box that was faulty.  Everything was ok for around a week then the vibration started again. Beginning to think it maybe the Cat that's faulty. I've had all the engine/gearbox mountings checked and of course the exhaust system itself (3 times) but nothing found wrong. It's going in again today (service/MOT) so will get them to check everything again.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions from other TD owners.
