Indeed, we're not talking about the 'evil Germany who butchered millions, attempted the extermination of races and peoples, caused the largest, most destructive war in History' of the glorious 21st Century hindsight, spouted by people who weren't even alive at the time... 
we're talking about the Germany that was 'downtrodden and - possibly-unfairly-now-we-come-to-think-about-it - caused to admit blame for the start of the First World War, pay massive reparations, give up huge territories, suffered a horrific recession, people literally dying on the streets, and has now been turned around by a brilliant and inspiring leader who has unified the nation and given employment, hope, and pride back to the nation' which was the worldwide perception of the Germany of the late 1930s.

As said, an act of protocol. And also as said, a slow news week. Bleeding pathetic, if you ask me, and not just because I'm a Royalist; I think even if Piers Morgan's grandfather was found to have given the Nazi salute as a child I'd be of the same opinion.

Indeed, they do have German ancestry. As indeed the majority of the population of Britain has Norman(French), Scandinavian, Irish, Italian(Roman) ancestry, and that's before we go into 20th Century multiculturalism, adding Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi, Polish, Romanian to the mix in a fair number. I wouldn't necessarily stand that because my great great great great grandfather was of German birth would automatically stand that I sympathise with a political ideology of that country that ran for a period of 12 years, some 200 years later. 

Also small note, the name of the House of Hanover was changed to Windsor in the First World War not the Second; for what we'd now call 'PC' reasons.
