My Dad used to say that you never see a poor bookie !
I have a bee in my bonnet about gambling, I'm not completely against it, I do the lottery a bit, I've played roulette and Blackjack (badly) in Vegas and Monaco, but I've always controlled it I've won and I've lost and I've always walked away, never good money after bad.
My concern is the profileration of advertising by gaming/gambling companies. Websites, TV, everywhere, are adverts encouraging gambling in some form or another. If a company advertises it is because they make money out of it. If they make money, then it stands to reason that the punter loses money. I just find this ethically wrong and yet it recent years it has boomed, and the most likely victims are those who can least afford it.
Rant over . . . . .
In my opinion it is generally the poorest members of society who bet the most and therefore lose the lost.
Such people are so lucky that benevolent help is at hand in the form of Wonga and the like......
These good samaritans of the financial world lend money to the impoverished and the needy when no one else will.....and at reasonable rates of interest too.
Perhaps Wonga and Quickquid should be given the same staus as charity shops..........
