Title: 205 v 225
Post by: STEMO on 31 August 2017, 12:59:19
The tyre noise from this astra is noticeably louder on the motorway than the old one. Almost to the point of being annoying.

Cars have improved in many ways over the years.

Road/tyre noise is not one of them. Ride comfort is another.

Big wheels fitted with fat ultra low profile  tyres is the problem.

Just be grateful your car isn't a German sports saloon.

Enough to make your fillings fall out. :-\

I drove an Audi A6 a couple of years ago and I noticed that at motorway speeds it had a noticeable drone. When it was examined in the workshop it was found to have some cheapish tyres fitted. The customer agreed to have replacements fitted of a middle of the range price range (not premium, but not budget), and the noise disappeared. All quiet again as you would expect.
Tyres can get noisy too as they degrade / age.

Good point. I notice the original conti's are still on the rear, but the front has a pair of 'Three A' on.

I'm surprised that the conscientious salesman who sold you the car didn't insist on fitting  four new premium brand tyres at their expense.

........along with a bottle of champagne and a large bunch of flowers for your good lady. Just their way of saying thank you. :)

Are they round  ;)

I'm being serious.....ive had tyres before (semi low profile) that have gone out of shape and that produces a droning noise at motorway speeds.

Run your hand over the tread.....if its smooth then their fine.....if you can feel bits of tread sticking up then the have gone out of shape  ;)

If they are round then it'll because of cheap tyres  ;)

The fronts look nearly new....just cheap.
