Rebate?

I've paid twice for the same 30 days in September. Once for the old Jag and once for the new Jag. :-\

Indeed, that was my point. SWMBOs car is £0 - so we have three cars in the household & pay a total of £30 a year in RFL! So, my thanks to Opti for paying for the maintenance of the roads of south Lincs  :y

I'm aware of that - I'm actually not gloating as I think the system was wrong - which is why it's been changed. If the cars were new now (they are 13, 63 & 12), then they would be £150 or so a year each.

Is there anyone around the barnsley area who could come round and punch me in the face? If not, I’ll have to do it myself.
My old astra’s tax was paid monthly by direct debit...which I cancelled when I bought the new one. Obviously, no refund due  :-[

When I apologised profusely to the lady at DVLA she said “Don’t worry, Sir, it’s quite a common call”.  ;D

I pay as near as makes no difference £100 each month/£1200 a year to tax two ordinary cars. :-\

What was so very wrong about buying and selling cars with road tax in place?

None of this pissing about trying to tax the car before driving it home after buying it.

I agree :y :y

It was a straightforward system, and after all, once a vehicle is taxed that should be it.  No, it has been said before that this is a money making scheme for Gov.UK ::) ::) ::)

Yes Lizzie.....I paid £47 for 30 days tax in September. Because the car was sold on the 13th I had to pay a further £47 for the remaining 17 days.

Rip-off Britain. This little government scam must bring in millions. :(

How much road tax do you pay on the Datsun, Mr Gav?

But in the 60’s through till the 80’s people just didn’t bother taxing their cars. If caught, the punishment was pay the back tax plus a small fine. I’m sure we all remember ‘tax in the post’ or even a Guinness label.
Now, once a car is registered to someone, there’s no getting away with it.

Trouble is the DVLA only work in whole months. Which is good for them and expensive for us. :(

Many years ago I had a mortgage that only calculated the amount paid every 12 months. Therefore I was paying interest on money that had been paid back months previously. This is now not allowed.

SORNED 3 cars at 23.30 hrs on Saturday 31st October, and the three refund cheques arrived in three different envelopes on Thursday 5th October! I too was impressed with the speed of sending the refund.
Modern technology is instant now I suppose, rather than previously filling in a form, sticking the surrendered tax disc to it, posting it to Swansea where it no doubt sat in a pile until physically opened and dealt with......
