Title: ad-blue
Post by: raywilb on 16 November 2017, 13:51:05
thinking of buying some ad blue but read different that the quantity that much depends on the vehicle you are intending to put it in. so how much would I have to add to every 10ltrs of diesel in a 2.2dti   :-\

Ad-blu does not work that way.

It is added by the engine management system, from a separate tank on the vehicle to control certain aspects of the car's emissions. Mixing ad blu directly with the diesel is likely to have a very bad effect on the engine!  :o

I think hope he's taking the p*ss (well, technically, the other way round). ;)

For an omega 2.2 dti, no point at all. If a car takes ad blu (and iirc it's only around 2008& newer cars that do) there will be a separate tank and the car will bong at you to tell you the tank needs filling.

The only thing I can think of that you would add directly to the fuel tank would be an injector cleaner such as Redex. Opinion of the effectiveness of this stuff varies and could be an entire thread all to itself.

I've just recalled a fond memory of adding two stroke oil to the petrol in my moped. :y

2 strokes were wonderful for the environment. :)....killed less babies than diesel. :)

2 Stroke oil can be beneficial, about 200ml per full tank on the Omega  :y

Wouldn't it make the car a bit smoky?

It's a tractor. Why would one worry about such impairments?  ;)

Besides, 200ml to a tank isn't going to make any odds on smoke.

No but, it does restore a lot of the lubrication that is removed as part of the sulphur reduction process used on modern diesels.

I hope he adds it to the seperate filler in next to fuel.

Ad blue is never mixed with fuel, only sprayed in exhaust to reduce emmisions.

I still have to on the MotoX/scrambler.  :y  They don't seem to have the old 25:1 freestanding oil pump on the garage forecourt anymore so I have to mix it myself.  ::) :)

It will, no matter what people tell you, trash the injectors in short order ;)

As said, a small amount of 2 stroke oil is beneficial to older tractors.

On a very low tank, I do sometimes chuck in a can of diesel magic, just to clean stuff up.
