Anybody got one of these?

I'm considering replacing the tape stage of mine with an ipod input section and fitting a blanking plate with connector in the tape bay (I never use my tape player and the ipod to tape adapter I have in there at the moment is awful).

A long shot, but I thought I'd try...

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / OSE not BOSE
« on: 20 March 2009, 14:20:20 »
Bit of a weird one this - not a biggie, just thought i'd post it to see if anyone else has seen this.

My 2.6 elite has a Bose CCR2006 with the usual assortment of subs, amp and speakers, and an MID (I think) display.

On startup the display shows 'OSE' instead of 'BOSE' - The pixels aren't duff because after startup that section of the panel works fine when showing other data (i.e radio stations, etc).

Am I right in assuming my MID has a hiccup on startup?  :y

Omega General Help / 2.6 V6 tappety sound, black oil, oil light
« on: 23 July 2011, 12:35:09 »
I rather unwisely gave the mig a good thrashing on the A1 on the way home from watford last night - it is a ten year old car with 126k miles on it, after all - should really be a bit more careful with the old girl, rather than racing her against kids in saxos.

About two miles from home the oil light came on, and I got a loud tappety noise from the engine.

Checking it this morning, the tappety noise is still there - so loud you'd have to shout to make yourself heard with the bonnet open. Oil level is good, but the oil is as black as tar and I haven't changed it or the filter for ages (i.e. 2 years + ).  :-[. No leakages from underneath, or from around the camcover gaskets.

I'm guessing that I've got a blockage in the oilways feeding the tappets / lifters - don't know the correct term - and a couple of oil and filter changes should do the trick. Perhaps some Wynns Lifter treatment too?

Any other suggestions? I did the aux belt / cambelt / breathers / water pump / camcover gaskets etc about 2 months / 500 miles ago, and I've got no error codes. The car has been sat outside the house with very little movement - maybe 200 or so miles in the last four weeks - because I've been quite ill.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Omega General Help / Replacing rear wishbone bolt - quick tip
« on: 03 January 2011, 16:23:45 »
I've spent two days doing my wishbones, steering idler and droplinks, and have re-learnt all the tips I used last time - after much swearing and heaving at stuck bolts.

I have a tip for those of you that struggle to get at the famous PITA rear bolt on the wishbone - I managed to drop one into the subframe the last time I did this:

Lie underneath the car in line with it, so your feet are sticking out from under the bonnet and your head is almost directly underneath the bolt hole. From this position it's relatively easy to get your right hand (for the passenger side, and vice versa) up between the steering rack and base of the engine, and on top of the bolt. I've managed to firmly grab, retrieve and fit a new bolt without any worries about losing it!

Cheers
John.

Omega General Help / quick question - elite rear bumper
« on: 18 July 2010, 20:40:49 »
Seeing as it's summer i've decided to tackle the increasing list of jobs that need doing on the mig.

Major one is the rear bumper - I rather stupidly backed into a steel post at a petrol station recently and have bent the bumper quite badly, so it'll need changing.

I've got a facelift elite, so it has parking sensors - apart from that, are the bumpers that same on most facelifts? or do they differ on elites?

(I think mines a star silver Z147, if anyone has a bumper to sell) - how do you find out the paint colour?

Cheers
John

Omega General Help / self levelling headlight height adjustment?
« on: 21 February 2010, 20:00:31 »
Long time since I've been on here...

After a minor prang in Jan, leaving a broken nearside headlight, dented wing and bumper, I trusted my car to the insurance companies' recommended bodyshop.

BIG mistake.

I have my car back (after three weeks!) and the new nearside headlight points to the ground. Main beam and dipped are both low on that side only, so I know the self levelling is fine. It's a xenon unit, but I assume the bodyshop didn't adjust the light after fitting it.

I don't want to take it back - it's the last time I go near that place - so want to do the basic adjustment myself.

A close examination shows two allen screws on the top of the unit - from other posts it would appear these are up/down and left/right adjusters.

Is this the case for the xenon units? which one is which? anybody remember which way they turn to adjust up/down and left/right? I don't want to be messing around with them for ever, and knowing my luck i'll break the adjusters if i'm not careful.

Any help? Thanks in advance.

Omega General Help / suggestions please - lowered suspension
« on: 10 August 2009, 23:39:33 »
I knew it would happen eventually - the ride in my mig is starting to feel a bit 'wallowy' or perhaps I'm being a bit too spirited in my driving these days.

I've got a facelift elite saloon, with the rear air shocks, and I think they are starting to play up every now and then. I'm not too fussed about retaining them, and will happily replace them with new non height adjustable units.

Ideally, I'd like to replace front and rear shocks and springs with an MV6 set, to lower the car a little and tighten up the handling, but i'm finding them a little hard to source - or i'm just being impatient.

Can anyone recommend a third party make of shocks and springs that will lower the car? I seem to remember the MV6 set drops it by about 40mm?

Cheers
John.

I've got a 2.6 elite saloon with self levelling suspension.

I've started to get problems (today!) with my rear suspension - after i've hit a bump hard, the right rear shock feels like it locks up - the back end gets skittish and thumps and bumps like a bugger over the smallest bumps.

Parked up, the passenger side rear end will compress relatively easily when leaned on, but the drivers side is rock solid.

When left for 10 mins or so the pressure appears to have eased off, and it's all good again. Until I hit a hard bump again, and it feels like it's locked up again.

The shock isn't seized, but i'm guessing that when hit hard, it loses it's 'springiness' and needs the air compressor to bleed some air out of it when the car is at a standstill, then it's OK again.

If I drive carefully, the problem doesn't happen. but hit a bump unexpectedly, and i'm right back to hard suspension again.

That's my amateur diagnosis - any tips on other stuff to look for before I break out the wallet and the toolkit again?

P.S. rear springs are both a couple of months old and in good shape. I think I heard a hissing from the front of the car when it was parked up, after the shock last 'locked up'. I'm assuming that was the compressor bleeding air from the shock?

P.P.S. - anybody got a pair of shocks for sale? I'd like to keep the self levelling, but don't have a TC or the £300 retail for a new pair.

Omega General Help / Couple of V6 / Eternal exhaust questions
« on: 21 April 2009, 11:59:38 »
Whilst at WIM this morning I took the opportunity, when the car was on the lift, to have a good look at the exhaust system.

I've got a hole just ahead of the back box, and the MOT is due on the 9th May, so I know that'll fail.

Tony at WIM said that in his opinion trying to remove the back box on it's own would be a mistake as the downpipes into it ('upsteam' of the clamp) are so rotted they are likely to snap too - so it looks like i'll have to replace the back box and central silencers.

So, for my two questions:

1) I have very little cash so am looking at Eternal Car to source the exhaust but can't find anything on their site and ebay store for my 2.6 - are all V6 exhaust systems the same?

2) Is this easy to fit myself with the car on axle stands? From looking under the car it appears that the pipes join just down from the cats with a 'mounting flange' (not sure of the correct term) so It LOOKS like I can unbolt that, then undo the mounting bolts all the way back to remove the old exhaust and back box. Is it that easy, or am I kidding myself?

Omega General Help / dropped a bolt in the subframe, I think.
« on: 10 April 2009, 13:56:07 »
whilst sorting out my passenger side wishbone - see this thread:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1239362963

I managed to get the rear bush into place, then, when trying to locate the bolt from above, it slipped from my fingers and I think I've dropped it into the subframe.

Does anybody have any tips for: a - locating it, and b - getting it out?

This would happen to me on a good friday! not so good, really.  :'(

doing my wishbones this weekend - i've started on the passenger side first in order to get the hard one out of the way!

I'm trying to fit the new wishbone, but whatever I do I cannot get the rear bush in. I've tried thumping it, swearing at it, smoking a fag and looking at it, and I've been trying for the last hour.

Anybody got any tips for getting it in? I think it's the usual problem - the edges of the bush are catching on the bolt hole so it just will not go in.

Omega General Help / steering idler - nyloc nut won't come off!
« on: 04 April 2009, 12:21:59 »
AGGGHHH!!

I've followed the instructions to the letter, detached the rear part of the steering idler, but the nyloc nut is turning the threaded bar that holds the front of the idler on - so I can't do it up or remove it.

pic below:

Has anybody got any ideas how I can secure the threaded bar so I can get the nut off, and fit the new idler?

Cheers

Omega General Help / VX part numbers please - wishbone bolt kit
« on: 29 March 2009, 22:30:03 »
I thought I'd be a good boy and change all the bolts on my front wishbones and steering idler when I change them out next weekend - can anyone tell me what the VX part numbers are?

I'm assuming they come in a kit of parts.

Cheers
John.

I've got an irritating Halfords trolley jack and axle stand kit - while the trolley jack will lift my mig high enough (380mm) to get axle stands under it at their lowest height, I can't get it high enough to use the second (higher) locking point on the stands.

Can someone advise on a SAFE way to raise the trolley jack height so I can use the higher setting on my stands? I can't comfortably get under the car on the lower setting, and as it looks like i'll have to do an ATF and filter change soon, I could use all the wriggle room I can get.

Cheers
John.

Following on from my trolley jack post...

Can anyone confirm the part numbers for the following bits are right for my autobox? I'm making the deadly assumption its an AR35, as I have a 2.6 DBW.

Main sump gasket - p/n 96014234
Small sump gasket - p/n 96014235
Drain plug washer - p/n 11023582 or 1638257 or 96041338 - I know that I'm using 96041338, thanks to my local stealer.

Autobox filter - p/n 96015432

Vx ATF Dexron III - p/n 19 40 763 / 90510269 (4.4L)

I got these from this post: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1165841260/0

Cheers
John.
