I had a couple, I like them a lot  :y. Good stereo's too  :).

I've sold 2 replacements this month already due to defective units

To give a clue on prices, a xenon headlight is up to £900 each, and they have been modified due to cracking on the cases under normal usage. Labour rates from main dealers are around £100 per hour plus vat, the dpf regen fluid part number 1161752 is £55 plus vat but adds an hour to the time and is not meant to be available to independent garages. Remote controls break all the time in the cases, and the list can continue if necessary.

Do not touch with a barge pole. I work for a Volvo dealer and everything needs a software update to work, sometimes even fuel filters. Tyre wear out stupid quick and can be up to £900 for a set of 4, interior is nasty compared to other models, they fall off the road in the wet or snow, angle drives (transfer boxes) break for the fun of it and everything is expensive on them.

... And that is just what I can think of whilst waiting for my steak, sitting in a Beefeater.

General Discussion Area / Re: When will the Omega increase in value?
« on: 03 February 2013, 18:48:39 »
You all say that the Omega will not become "valuable" again, but people said that about the Sierra models. Look at the prices nowadays, even for base models and you would be surprised.

I paid £800 for my Sierra Ghia 4x4 Sapphire back in 2002 with 48k on the clock and it now has 97k on the clock and is valued by the insurance on a classic policy @ £2,500. I paid £300 for a 1989 2000e back in 2006/7 and, with some resto work, is now valued at the same. And some of the older cars are even more. Also have a 1986 Escort cabriolet Ghia with twin-choke carbs which I purchased in 2003 for £150, insurance company now independently value it at £4,500.

Just goes to show, the rarer something becomes (even if they are common cars now), in good condition, will go up, providing that there is not another year range of the same thing which is better (i.e. MK1 & 2 Golfs are stupid value, but the MK3 is never worth too much, yet the MK4 is starting to go up in value).

What is the history of the car?

Dealer demo for 6 months, old guy owned since then until 2010, purchased by me for friends of the family who only did 4k miles per year at most and was serviced by me during this period, then purchased by me 4 weeks ago with 69k on the clock. Now sits on 71k.

Has it had any suspension work?

No suspension work done, although sounds like a drop link rattling on the rear.

Have you only just bought it?

See 1st answer

Did it need new tyres?

Yes, all 4. 2 on the rear were a little over pressure and wearing in the middle, the fronts had worn down through natural causes. Fitted 4 new Dunlop SP Sport 01 225/55R16 tyres within 24 hours of buying it. Previous tyres were Dunlop SP 9000 all round.

What state are the suspension components in and has it had a proper geometry setup by WIM (or a WIM affiliated outlet)? ???

I've experienced strange handling when the geometry is out ;)

The suspension components are all in good working order, it even had an MOT this time last week and passed with flying colours, and my MOT guy is VERY strict when I get a new car.

The geometry has not been done to WIM specs, but that would not explain most other cars doing the same thing (wet muddy roads tend to cause these problems, regardless of anything else).

On that same note though, if anyone has the correct WIM-specs for a MFL X20XEV estate CDX, I will gladly take a PM of them  :y

Fair enough, it was worth a thought.

As for the tyres, they are perfectly fine new Dunlop SP Sport 01 tyres in 225/55R16 size. I get the same issues if I use my Sierra running Bridgestone Potenza S-02 PP tyres (except that the 4x4 on the Sierra just causes a slight almost un-noticeable wiggle) or the Golf on Toyo T1-R tyres. Unfortunately, the roads are pitted and cratered/patched and bits of country lane mud, etc.... in various places. Add to that the recent salt, etc... and the roads there get a little slippery, especially when wet.

Hi guys, I have read through the TC threads that the Search facility throws up, but they all appear to be for FL or V6 motors.

Mine is a 1997/8 Mini Facelift (produced 18th Sept 1997) X20XEV estate CDX. I know everybody says that TC is not needed on the 4-pot cars, but some of the roads I drive are a little bit slippery (out in the country a bit) and all on national speed limit roads and the back has skipped a little a few times, plus a couple of times on roundabouts with the salt and rubbish on them. Slowing down on some of these roads is just as dangerous as too many lunatics race down them even faster and almost tailgate you. I have the spare slot next to the drivers heated seat button and it looks like the wiring may be there, so what would be required to swap it all over to the TC variety? Replacement ECU? Switch? Wiring? Plus, I like to have ALL options on my cars and a spare blank to me is just something waiting to be filled.

The two dashes signify that there are stored fault codes in the unit.  :y
Okay, how would I access these codes? Would they stay once the fault is fixed until cleared or autoclear?

All the pipes were okay, I made sure to check them before removing everything.

I could not move any of the actuators though, even the recirc was solid. Only thing I did notice this morning that I did not last night was that the heating was not actually doing anything in the way of hot or cold. The display moved, but the temperature was the same.

I would have though though that a vac pipe would not stop the system from trying to reset when the Auto and Off buttons are pressed? Mine was almost as if the module had freaked out. Only thing I have left is that when you turn the ignition off, you get the -- on each temperature display, but if you turn the clpimate off manually, it just switches straight off. not sure if it is meant to do this or not.

No worry, sussed it.

After taking the console apart, I reset it by disconnecting the plugs for a while, tried it again and it now allows me to do the normal reset procedure and everything appears to be working now  :y :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / No windscreen vent
« on: 09 January 2013, 20:38:47 »
Hi guys, bit of help if I can?

Mini facelift 2.0 16V with electronic climate (CDX model). I cannot get the vents to alter from their position and the recirc appears to be not working. It goes click behind the dash when activated, and the speed alters slightly, but that is all. If you press the windscreen button, the fan speeds up, etc...., but the direction does not change.

Hot and cold work fine, a/c works, etc..... I also get the -- on the temp displays when turning the ignition off for about 2-3 seconds.

I have tried to do a reset using the Auto and Off buttons, but it just turns it all off and does nothing else, no matter how long you hold them for.

I did have the control panel apart to change all the lighting bulbs, would that have upset something?

It is getting dangerous now as I have no blow to the windscreen and it mists up quickly when driving down the road.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Autodimming Mirrors
« on: 06 January 2013, 16:56:46 »
I have been rummaging through the maintenance guides and noted the one for retrofitting the auto-dimming interior mirror, but it states that it is for the facelift model.

Question? Will the later facelift mirror, or one from a Zafira B physically fit onto the mount of a mini-face-lift Omega? Wiring will not be a problem, just want to make sure it will fit before getting one.

Hi guys, thought I would put a quick post up and say hello.

Just picked up a nice little 1997-8 2.0 CDX Estate auto with the X20XEV engine and 65k on the clock in Midnight Black. Owned by a friend for 2 years and an old boy from 6 months old prior to that until he retired from driving.

Having worked at a Vauxhall main dealer until 4 months ago when I was made redundant, I know a fair bit about the old Vauxhall cars and have a Cavalier X20XEV with the autobox as well as a few other cars.

Just got to spend the next couple of days going through the to-do list, dash bulbs on the climate control, exhaust heat shield rattle, check-strap click, etc.... and it should be on the road on Wednesday.
