Well a pass is a pass and at least it gives some time to get the car repaired. 

As others have said, and through personal experience (the project car has had sills, rear arches and chassis legs repaired over the years i've owned it) the rust noted on the advisory is a far bigger problem than the MOT might suggest, that's not to say it can't be sorted because it can, but you have to make a decision about how good a repair is to be performed, how much you are prepared to spend and thus how long you are expecting to keep the car for.

The front chassis leg rots from the inside out around the steering box location, it also rots out around the engine subframe strengthening mount points. Any Omega now needs to have all the known locations (the list is growing!) for rust checked regularly because spending money on the larger service tasks such as cambelts etc on these vehicles at this age could be wasted money.

Used the Omega to go to a site visit today as didn't fancy parking the Beemer there after looking at the images on Google Streetview  . Still a great car to blat along A roads in, yes it's surpassed in so many departments by more modern RWD cars but I still love driving it and as long as it keeps passing MOT's i'll keep hold of it

They are going to order a new sensor, but maybe the issue is not the sensor but the glass of some other glitch. I'm thinking the problem is the glass itself, which seems a bit darker than the old one (and says "Solar tint", which the old didn't).

So the new screen has a Purple tint to it?

I believe if the old one didn't you need to get someone with a Tech II to change the coding for the Rain Sensitive Wipers for a Solar tint screen

Oh, and tell them that they can stick their auto full beam up their arse as it dips the lights when they reflect off of a road sign, with no other car within miles. Although adaptive headlights are good because they move the beam pattern. 

Have adaptive and high beam assist on mine (but it's an older car with a previous generation High Beam Assist). To be honest I never use it, it dips too late for my liking which obviously pisses off any normal oncoming driver. The best adaptive headlights i've used are on our V70.

When you eventually get it, if bmw are tight enough to piss people off, turn off the wi-fi and re-code the chargeable items to activate. An Indie has access to the same software that bmw use, so service history can be maintained.

Yep, Bimmercode app and a bluetooth OBDII will do that with the minimum of fuss, easy to re-apply after car has been in for a service and BMW decide to deactivate anything. If you want to get into BMW coding then an Enet cable and ISTA is the way to go with a cheap used laptop.

Ultimately, whatever the manufacturers configure on their cars, the aftermarket coders will soon catch up and from what i've seen, the vast majority of modern vehicles have next to no security on most of their modules.

I did a few mods with Carly and my mobile.    Some of the mods had already been turned into shortcuts so you just had to tick a box to activate but others required adapting the ‘Long Coding’ to activate. I quite enjoyed the long coding but if I was tampering with that I’d always make a note or take a photo of the original code just in case something went wrong. I think long coding was required to activate adaptive brake lights, where the brake lights flicker on and off in quick succession when you are braking hard from speed, to let the car behind know that you’re hard on the anchors. Trouble is, a lot of people aren’t aware of adaptive brake lights, and aren’t aware of what they signify. 

I coded the tail lights to be on with the front DRL's (ECE code) as it's always seemed a stupid idea not to have them on to me, coded the headunit / iDrive to turn off after the ignition was turned off and the drivers door was opened (why would you want it to stay on until you lock the car???) and also set the indicators appear in the HUD.

It does have heated but not cooled seats...I think. ......F*uck £15 a month.

If it's like my 10 year old 5 Series, you need to have the Comfort Seats with the cooling option...... Fortunately someone else forked out for it on my car when it was built and its too old for the current subscription bull.

The article is a bit misleading to be fair, How many manufacturers do you know who will upgrade your Sat Nav Maps for free after 12 months / 3 years or whatever warranty you have these days?

rewriting a city,s culture to base it around a ship that sunk on its maiden voyage beggars belief to me.

I know, bit of a first world issue, but yesterday I got stupidly frustrated with the tedious job of removing 240 m.2 SSDs from their individual packaging, along with 120 m.2 RAID adapters, and fitting the drives to the adapters, and then repackaging the adapters.

The worse part was cutting the SSD boxes into tiny pieces so they would fit in the recycling wheelie bin for the council to drag away this morning.

The black wheelie bin, not due for emptying until next week, is now full of bubble bags, foam, antistatic bags and so on.  I think she might notice that there is no room for more rubbish...

I have the same situation with Cisco and Aruba boxes here from switches and routers. The joys of working from home....

I bet they'll start charging a surcharge on the council tax for work from homers soon! 

I'm only a partial 'work from home' person, mainly out performing free pothole testing for Councils and Highway Agencies around the Country!

Removed the side indicator repeater on the 530D, tested the feed to it, attempted to dry the sealed LED unit to revive it. No good, ordered a new one (Mine has the park assist sensor in it so typically the unit with the hole in the housing for this is three times more expensive than the standard one ) Ordered new genuine unit, once fitted I think a session with a dremel on the old unit will follow to see if a repair can be made 

New unit fitted. No longer a 'stereotypical' BMW driver

A mate of mine has a 60A incomer and is an ECO type so has an EV, heat pump, solar, giant bomb LiPo battery, the works.
His main fuse keeps going pop. He's requested a bigger one but the DNO are dragging their heels while they decide if he can have one.

obviously he can't remove the DNO seals on the cut out to fit one though 

Or use a dab of superglue to reinstate the seal enough for it not to be noticed on a casual glance.
