Tunnie, last time I drove JV6CDX 2.5, it was gutless.  Yet still significantly quicker than your 2.2 ;)

I would have to say that the 2.2 is possibly 2nd the slowest car (tractor being slowest) I've driven in recent times, and I'll include her Rover in that.

Thinking about it, I reckon even the tractor will give you a run for your money....

If you don't want a V6 Omega, but want a powerful RWD car, then you're looking at spending a big wedge, else you'll be constantly fighting to keep 250k beemer on the road...

If you don't mind FWD, then options open, but fun decreases normally.

Moral: is the german car any better, I don't think so.

The German car better than what, the Omega (which happens to be German)? That's where they're all built by Opel, the Vauxhall ones are simply RHD models re-badged.
I think the comment was that the 'German Marques' - BMW, Audi/VW, Merc are no better than anything else.  I would go one step further and say that these marques have rested on their laurels and fallen behind. Merc were the first to do this, but it seems the first to notice and try to drag themselves back on track.

Be aware with the Beemers, they have woeful reliability (know someone who work for their warranty), and as we've began to discover recently, sensor faults are not flagged up on dash.

Not sure why you think my MV6 is slow, but not your Senator? We proved which was the quickest.  I also seem to recall you blatting it at high speed down A43 when it was running rough...

Your poorly V6 is quicker than your 2.2 (I was ragging the nuts off it to keep up with you when we picked it up).

There are quicker cars around, but I think you need to be looking at smaller engined, lighter cars if thats what you want...

I just think the v6's always have problems. My brother has just bought a facelift 2.5v6 auto. Looks lovely , engine bay spotless , no rocker leaking , rams work a treat. But.... pull up after a journey and a strongish smell of coolant. Coolant spotlessly clean red.

Why is it every omega i have clapped eyes on has a problem somewhere?!?!

Matt
Years of previous neglect ;)

Yeah can see your point. I just wish the v6's werent so fiddly.

Matt

I think TB will tell you that the BMW 2.5 TD is more fiddly than the VX V6........... Read the threads about all the problems he encountered with his TD and I think you'll agree

So you dont rate diesels i take it?

Matt
I'm actually a diesel fan, have been for years. But the 2.5, esp manual, can match the mpg except on decent motorway runs.

TB,

You have transplanted a diesel engine havent you. So what diesel engine would you recommend to fit in the omega to give decent economy and decent performance?

Matt
V6 2.5 manual.  Its not a diesel, and its a V6.

......

No small TD will have lots of torque low down, as its utterly reliant on the turbo.

 .......

That's certainly true of my 1.7 low blow Astra. F*** all happens till almost 2000rpm when the turbo spins up.  :(  :(
Same for all (car) turbos, need the turbo to be singing before the power comes...

As you all know, I have a 2.5TD Elite.

Being 6 cylinder, it will always be a smoother engine than the 2.2.  In standard form, its awful. Chipped makes it more drivable, and economical.  However, I would not recommend an auto with this engine (even ar35) - it loses so much power through it.

The short oil changes are no problem, as you want to be changing diesel oil every 3k anyway, due to the particulates.

The BMW unit is not as good as uneducated people think.

The 2.2 seems to have its fair share of reliability/performance issues.

My advice - find one you fancy, and test drive it.

BTW, I have found the V6 to be very reliable, no niggles, with only one breakdown in 4yrs of ownership (rather crank sensor), which makes it most reliable vehicle I've had.

me personally would go for the 2.5 as it is a bmw unit and very very reliable, not to say that the 2.2 isn't cos it is,but 2.5 bmw is very good :y :y :y
Err, sorry, would have to disagree.

Next jobs are....

Chase Laidback66 up to get the LPG estate sold.
Remove a stuck plug from the neighbours Fiesta (swine of a job)
Fit a new exhaust on the car (it deserves a treat!)
Fit a replacement fan to the climate panel
You forgot:
Help TheBoy replace a CCR800 with a CCRT700 in the MV6 (bose is fitted now) - we may need your car to do some metering on ::)

From memory....its the same pinout as a CCRT2008.....which can be found under wiring diagrams against 2002 model Omegas.
I had looked at that.  Was unsure if the connections to display and CD were the same as the CCR800, or do I have to frig about at those ends as well.  I guess the MIC should be easy enough to work out.
