General Car Chat / MOT Test

Need to put car into Mot next week but due to complications I need to have the following original parts not fitted.

Will these effect the MOT test ?

Rear high level brake light
Rear seat head-rests or parcel shelf
Rear seat side squabs and rear pillar trims..seat belt mountings will be secured.
Front Glove box..although air bag box secured

Just wanted to be sure in my own mind how much I could leave unfitted

General Car Chat / Pre Booked Mot Test

My car is currently on a sorn notice and the mot has expired due to me having it off the road for sometime doing several jobs on it.

I now need to get it taxed,and mot tested but cant do 1 without the other.

I have put insurance in place to start at midnight on 25th November ,so can I drive it to a pre booked MOT test on that date bearing in mond it will have no current tax or mot,as without the mot certificate I cant then get road tax.

Lots of conflicting reports on line so wondering if anybody has had the sam situation

General Car Chat / Car Battery Charger

Looking to get a new battery charger as my 30 + year old Ring has seen better days and ( christmas pressie list was passed around at home earleir today) so as its harder every year to think of something you would like, or need, decided to plumb for a new one.

Need some advise though as market place looks confusing  ...needs to be capable of doing the Omega if needed so larger unit prefered..expect I could persued "buyer" to go to £50.

Any advise guys

Is there a way of removing the seatbelt from the center rear fasterner without unbolting it from the floor pan.

Middle seat belt which I assume is for child seat fitting.....as need to remove rear seat squab and would prefer not to need to unbolt everything

The rear S/L suspenion has no effect what so ever on the level positioning of HID lights ?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Sat Nav Aerial

I have just removed the roof aerial on my 03..3.2 and replaced it with a active Hirschamn dab aerial.

My plan is to retian the original ncdc 2013 sat nav but need some advise on replacing sat nav aerial.Previous advise was to pick up the sat nav arial cable in the drivers side foot well and then connect a magnetic type within the roof headlining.

As the original aerial has a joiner at the back roof position and I have got reasonable access with the head lining now dropped would it be possible to just connect into that existing point.The plug on the aerial is a plastic case with 2 black wires and what seems to be a 2 pin plug but all the magnetic type I have seen have the small MMX brass push in.

Is an adaptor available or a sat nav aerial magnetic mounted with the correct type of plug available as I havent any idea how to describe it on a google search

Omega General Help / Facelift Door Cards

It seems the quality of interior trims from MFL to Full Fl has gone down and I was wondering if anybody had come up with a clever way of restoring the plastic/rubber bits of the door cards as expect like may others mine ar quite shabby.

Previous MFL had a decent section of carpet then leather which could be properly treated and clened..FL is just dull and very basic.

Omega General Help / Cannister or Cartridge

Will be changing oil/filter in the next few days on 2003..3.2 and was wondering if there was any benefit to the OEM cartridge oil filter on the F/L than the cannister on the M/F/L.

Have both available along with the spigot pipe for the conversion to cannister ,but curious what advantage there was between the 2..naturally assuming the metal casing hasn,t been fitted by "The Hulk" in which case the question becomes irrelivant

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Wanted..Front Wing /Bumper retainer

Wondered why I couldnt secure the front bumper to the wing on both sides..it appears attached to the edge of the front wing plastic/abs section which screws to the wing and then allows the front top bumper mounting to attach

Both of mine are busted so need each side without any damage if anybody can help

Omega General Help / Rear Vented Discs

Following my failed attempt at getting a pair of vented rear disc anti-rattle springs from VX I was wondering if the discs on a 2.6 were the same as the 3.2 fitted with the calipers stamped 42 as that will give me another route to go down.

Good old VX are saying non at all in the UK and Germany may have similar stock problems.

Unless anybody has a pair tucked away somewhere and want to exchange for some "beer tokens"

As above need a pair of the wider anti rattle springs for rear pads on vented discs..part # 9195056

Had a set of pins and springs on order from local stealer for the last couple of days.Went to collect today to be advised springs are out of stock in UK and Germany will need to be contacted to release any stock they have which could be 4---6 weeks so situation quite desperate as existing were either missing or so badly rusted they are un serviceable.

Just aswell I didn,t get stealer to do the work..could of imagined the phone call..."Sorry sir but we cant refit your brakes as the original parts are missing or damaged and we will need your car for the next 6 weeks whilst we order parts "

FFS you could build a car quicker than that. :

Any help guys would be really appreciated

I need a set of usuable rear std springs and shocks for saloon..2.5/3.0 MFL.

Ideally as new as possibl,not worn out or leaking shocks please..not S/L ..Accept 2nd hand suspension is not ideal but needs must on this project please.

Would probably need to include courier/postage too.

Omega General Help / Rear brake pad pins

Just found out that the brake pins I have been supplied in rear brake pad set are too short for 3.2

Can anybody help me with out with part number for the longer pins...and are thge antirattle springs the same across the range as cant compare as what I have just removed had none fitted.

Omega General Help / Different Cam Cover Seals

This morning I got around to replacing both failed camcover gaskets on my newly acquired 3.2 and discovered the original gaskets were different from those I have just bought from VX.

Gaskets removed were jointed with a thin section of rubber in effect making it a single gasket with part number GM 55351456 GREINER 2 allowing them to be assembled in 1 peice .The new VX gaskets were the correct part number as per guide being a pair per side.

Curious to know if these single gaskets were used in the factory on manufacture therefore meaning these gaskets are the cars original of some 10 years old.

Secondly whilst this is less issue when I removed plugs they were Bosch 4 electrodes although I have fitted 2 electrode type on reassembly.

Could these 4 electrode type also be from original manufacture as cant find any history of them being changed either.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / F/L Elite Roof Aerial

Does the standard f/l Elite Aerial only have a connection for the satnav.

I want to replace the standard aerial with a Hirschmann DAB aerial as I had on my previous Elite which worked superbly with my Highway receiver, but would still also like to retain the inbuilt satnav system and also don,t want to drill another hole into the roof to have 2 aerials.

Is there a simple solution/different aerial choice.
