Anybody got an alternator that I can use just to check to see if mine is kaput, prefably local to colchester  - especially as the part is out of the car now

I may have one John.Definitely have a 120 amp,but iirc 3.2 one is rated higher than that ?

2.6/3.2 can be fitted with either 120 or 140amp but for reliability the 140 is shite

Albs it looks like a 120A one thats on there now - so i will give that a go if you dont mind.  Let us know when you are around and I wil pop over if thats all right .

Rob - I take it from this you mean dont bother with the 140A

I would have thought the other way round

140amp regulator is prone to failure whereas the 120 is pretty much bulletproof.

If Albs or anyone else near you cant help and your really stuck or need one urgently, Im just a bit further down and currently breaking a 3.0 plod with a known good one fitted, but your need to f around and take it off yourself as have a full weekend of work lined up, dont mind helpwith voltzge measurements etc, have a good Fluke DVM here.
