I have just found out that one of the semi retired old boys I work with was the Pilot In Charge for THAT bombing raid on Stanley Airport... 8)

Fascinating chap to talk to... :y

Wasn't it 607 that did the first drop? I remember reading the book on hols and SWMBO got a right cob on cos I didn't speak to her until it was finished  ;D  one hell of a mission  :y

Turns out that 558 wasn't involved in that series of raids at all...  ::)

Vulcan 607 is a very good book.It does make you wonder when reading it how the heck we ever pulled the raid off!!!

Apparently got quite a bollocking upon their return to base for doing a victory roll over the runway .. ;D

Apparently got quite a bollocking upon their return to base for doing a victory roll over the runway .. ;D
Because when a plane returns from duty it may have unseen damage,which doing aerobatics could induce stress and cause a crash, standard practise since ww2, many a good pilot was lost doing victory rolls over home turf.

Is this Mr Withers from Black Buck 1? (current XH558 chief pilot)

I think the base commander was more worried about replacing windows ;D valid point though ;)

First name Alex, possibly Tristram :-\

Been a busy boy though over the years...Vulcans, Victors, VC10s, Tristars, Queens Flight and Caledonian...
