Is it possible on 97? It is such a pain in the bottom to travel alone with a baby in the backseat because you can't put here up in the front with you, would be much more easier if I could put the child seat in the front of the car.
Ofcourse I have my Satellite for that but I would also like my Omega to have the child in the front...
So doable? How? Snippety snap some wires and some resistor to replace the airbag itself?

Might take some tweaking, but you could try fitting a left hand front seat facing backwards instead of the right seat.
Remove the headrest for visibility reasons and slide the seat base towards the rear to allow clearance from the passenger airbag. Side airbag should still function normally. Not sure if the seatbelt would still secure the child seat, but suitably place ratchet straps would be as effective :-\
Obviously the above is a hypothetical suggestion, but might give you some ideas ;)

When I had a backward facing car seat and a front airbag, I had the seat in the fully back postion so there was less chance of the bag making full contact with the seat, after seeing the airbags deploy in my old astra I had an idea of the position in which it will not make much contact

Actually, having seen that video, I would suggest that my original suggestion isn't that great either without the airbag being disabled :-\

Pragmatic is not the word for deliberately, knowingly installing a safety feature in a dangerous way.

Having seen the quality of driving from parents with their little darling in the front seat, I don't think having the little sods in the front can ever be safe.
Surely when in charge of a motor vehicle, its your responsibility to keep an eye on the road, not shaking rattles and other toys at little johnny.
But with the current wet society, such a suggestion would be outrageous.

I know you posted that tongue firmly in cheek, but absolutely NOT like that...
"Swap the front passenger seat with the front driver seat from your other Omega and fit it facing backwards " is what I suggested and meant ::)

It may be illegal but thats like having the seat fully back to drive normally, Take my brother for instance 6'.3" the airbag wouldnt even touch him.
When I crashed my astra I had the seat-back laid back enough, that airbag just brushed my forehead and im 5.9

That is cr*p. It is illegal to have a child seat (with child) fitted in the front passenger seat of a vehicle equipped with a passenger airbag, period. The only legal exception is where a vehicle has the option to disable the passenger airbag

If the seat had been appropriately positioned, you probably wouldn't have crashed :-X

I thought it was just illegal to have a rear facing seat in the front of a car :-\ There's no provision in my Smarts to turn the airbag off, though my Merc us like later Omegas in that you can pay through the nose for a seat that is able to talk to the car & disable the its airbag.

Mercs have a sensor in the seat base that know when a acr seat has been fitted. Mine was forever going wrong, it kept the dash light on when an adult was in the passenger seat and didnt seem to want to reset.
It wasnt a permanent thing, I think I did it twice because I had the boot full in the omega estate and in the v70.
My crash was because the ejit infront decided to brake sharp with no indicators then said sorry and wanted to keep it quiet
not because of my youthful position I happend to have when I was 18

Every car manual has the correct position to put the seat in. This happens to be the correct driving position anyway. Fully reclined is for Lord Opti or that Tigger fella's shagging antics.
That way you can ensure your airbag hits you properly in the moosh, like its supposed to.

That was bloody lucky, because it was 100%, completely, utterly your fault :)
