You omitted the important essential words for them, at that time. And that changes surprisingly rapidly; just plot what is and isn't socially normal over the last fifty years. Yes, that's a random number for most, but it covers my lifetime.


'Normal' is one of those warning words that should be considered an illustration of the user's prejudices. Some from a very long list are 'everybody knows' and 'communist/socialist/---ist.'
