my initial thought is blocked matrix, or airlock in it...  ...can you flush matrix with hose?

Bypass valve is vac operated so if there is vaccum leak then you get no warm water flowing through the matrix....

So, as always....check the engine bay vac pipes first....

hi thanks for getting back to me i will try to flush it and see what happens i have just looked at the old bypass valve and the top pipe which has always been hot you can see that water has been flowing through it fine but the bottom pipe is clean i think the car has had this prob for some time also if you suck the top of the valve it does work so i think it is definatly a vacum prob but i have checked the pipes around and they look ok but where do the vacum pipes go after they have come through the bulkhead they seem to go back through again near the gearbox is this right and where do they go after that?

thanks guys :y

Have a look in the maintenance guides here for info on the vac pipe routing...

V6 Vac pipe info

Both the feed and return vac pipe sould pass through the bulk head by the heater matrix pipes... (right hand connection is to the bypass valve, left hand one is te vac feed to the cabin controls).

Does it have climate or dial controls?

From memory (too late to go out and check now..), the 'nothing happens when engine is cold' only occurs in Auto mode, if you crank-up the fan manually it starts blowing - albeit cold air....

The vac pipes go to two solenoids on the passenger side of the heater box. If you pull the glovebox out you can see them. One screw holds them on. It's easy to drop them down and join the vac pipes together to confirm your HBV is working. One of the solenoids is for the HBV, the other is for the variable fan speed.
