this is the exact fault i had on monday, took me two hours to strip, clean and re-install, just get the passenger side up as high as possible, tools needed - 17mm spanner, 10mm deep socket on 1/4" drive, 10mm spanner and a t15/20 torx bit.  oh and some plasters for when you catch your wrist on the exhaust.  It is fiddily to remove especially the plug but all managable even for an ammetuer.

Not a hard job just take your time,  when you open the selector switch up mine looked like it had been to mac d's for a banana milkshake, i just cleaned it up with a rag, just be careful on little 'fingers' in white moving arm.

Good luck

Cheers for that Trem. As a matter of interest what code came up for this?
As i'm completely useless when it comes to DIY jobs on cars (takes me 1/2hr just to change a light bulb!) i'll get a qualified motor doctor to do it - saves me the expense of plasters!  :D :D

i didn't have any codes as i only have the gls model with the tid display but did have the gearbox warning light on there, the lights next to the gear stick all went on, i could manually select 1st 3rd and reverse, but in auto it would stay in 3rd and i was unable to select sport or snow modes.  Its not hard to do at all, very easy i would say, if you can change your air filter you can do this job.

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way ......
Oh what fun it is to have the gearbox working for me!!  :D :D :D

Everything working as it should be & i want to give a special thanks to 'trem' & 'Kneepad'  :-* :-* (in a purely manly way!!)

It wasn't a quick job to do especially under the car on a board in freezing fog BUT hey the autobox selector switch is now clean & working as it should do (fingers crossed as i've only driven it a mile or so but seems fine!)  :) :)

This site is worth its weight in gold and i can't thank you enough!!

Cheers

Andy  :y :y :y

Well done that man. You're brave to tackle it in this weather, but worth it for the result.

Thanks for the feedback.   :y
