I booked my CD in for its annual MOT expting it to cost £50 as it’s a VX main dealer, turns out it’s £28, thank you Therlow Nunn
-
There will be a catch... :-X
-
they'll recoup the £22 when they find something to fix ..... ::) ::)

Especially if this is the same garage that replaced the head gaskets for something to do :-X

Yep, I always take mine to the local guy in the village and pony up the £50 odd. It's plain to see that it costs a garage at least £50 to do an MOT* so if they charge less, it's a loss leader.
*- unless it's my Westfield, whereby he has about 25 minutes chatting to me over a cuppa and a fag before logging off the MOT system since it only takes him 15 minutes to test the car!

The place I take mine to charges me £43 but he only does MOT tests

I paid the £28 at my local Vauxhall main dealer to MOT Zafira, passed no issues.
I take the 3.2 Fox in Camberley, the 'Vauxhall Specialist' last time I paid more for the 3.2's MOT.
-
I have been paying the same £40 to my MOT place for almost as long as I can remember. They only do MOT,s and every year the same guys has a chat about the Omega and says he wished every car he saw was as well maintained,so for the praise alone I,m happy to pay the £40.
Thats a coincidence,Tunnie,as my 3.2 Elite was supplied from new by Fox,s at Camberley according to old documents I have.

They must only do service now? The garage in town is where the Peugeot one was, it's under Eden.
Perhaps there was a Fox branch there? As the service/MOT place only do that, no sales. Wonder if it was always separate. :-\
-
I pay 35 to my Local Garage, they wont fail something for the sake of it as they are always banged out with too much work anyway, last time I ended up offering them 20 notes so I could do the work myself on their Ramps for an hour or so when there Mechanic had a day off. then the MOT Guy just looked at it and printed the MOT ;) :y
-
The trolley will be £40. Using a different garage to last test which was full price, yet still charge £80 an hour, provided the work isn't difficult... They will gladly charge £500+ to do discs and pads on a Corrola >:(

IIRC, there was a big Fox Vauxhall dealership on the BVR years ago. My Dad nearly bought his Senator there, but they upset him so he went to one on the A322 in Knaphill / Bisley, IIRC. I don't think either of them are there any more.

£39.85 at mine. And £30 to any OOF member who wants one 😁😁😁
I know that when we put online MOTs at under that we got less interest. Probably to do with people thinking that we'd try and do them (not the case but new customers don't know that).
I also know dodgy outfits like Halfords and quickfit fail and charge for headlight aiming etc.
-
My local indie does the MOT for free with a service. The service consists of changing the oil and filter for £135. Go figure ;D
-

If the headlight aim is out of tolerance, it is a fail , even if just one bulb needs replacing ,it's a fail ,must be entered on the VTS device as a fail, then repaired, then part retest
not that i'm sticking up for Halfrauds or quicksh!t
you can't do repairs ,however minor, during a test
but i suspect your implying that such outfits fail on such items ,even though they are fine ,just to meet sales targets etc bump up the bill
you could be right ;D
-
Pay £27 for mine at local Ford dealer ben taking my cars there for 20yrs and they know by now that at their labour rates they ain't getting any repair work out of me :D ;D

My tester will adjust headlight aim during a test

Headlamp aim fail is just to keep VOSA happy.
-
Headlamp aim fail is just to keep VOSA happy.
The test is to check that the beam doesn't fall into prescribed areas and dazzle oncoming traffic. It is NOT a check that you can see where you're going.

Who said it was? ???

So? What I am saying is that the headlamp aim is fine, but it goes down as a fail just so VOSA can see a fail. There is no charge for 'fixing' it and a pass is issued immediately after.

there is no fail quota an mot station has to meet
but if a car is presented for MOT with a headlamp aim out of tolerance, it should be a fail on the system ,so vosa know about it ,
many cars aim is adjusted with a simple turn of a screw (which some MOT garages charge £25 + vat per side to adjust)
say every 2015 ford fester is presented for MOT and the brake light bulbs are blown on most , VOSA would recognize a pastern and investigate .
if the NT just replaces the bulbs while testing ,no one would know that ford festers are crap ;D
just an example :y not saying all 2015 festers have blown brake bulbs ;)
headlamp aim and emissions are easy pickings for rip off garages to charge for because not many of us has calibrated headlamp beam alignment testers or emission machines
I've seen people in main dealer service center receptions parting with £500+ for mot repairs on 3 year old cars
-
I know what my MOT tester told me, and that's good enough for me :)
-
.....

That's not quite true. My tester told me that a few years ago he was pulled up for not failing a certain percentage of vehicles (his quota) but VOSA was happy with the reply that the MOT station tests a lot of local ambulances that are tested yearly from new so therefore fewer 'sheds' than the norm

My garage door serves me quite well. :y

Tell them you don't drive at night, so its not a problem ::)

Get my mots done at EMG buy 3mot vouchers at a time for £63.00 seems decent value to me, Merc & Subaru have never failed Hyundai had an advisory on wiper component authorised the repair £49.00 never had any problems with them plus vehicles are always cleaned.
-
45 euros I think from memory in Spain. Government run stations.
I think the finefor no MOT is 40 euros.

I'm guessing the locals don't bother, then ;D

I always use my local village garage for MOT,s. At £50 it isn't the cheapest but he is a good honest bloke who is very good at his job so Im happy to give him a bit of support.

Same here, I like to support local Brackley businesses. Even if he did fail me on a dingly dangly in the past. But we don't mention that.

Sadly I know they do! Well a certain branch anyway 😡😡😡😡
-
£53 at my local garage which is 5 minutes walk from home. :y
There's nothing worse than taking your car somewhere and ending up walking the streets while they test or fix it. ::)
-
I always wait and watch ;)
-
One of my sons-in-law is that daftest I know[he is from Essex though ::)]he takes his car for the M.o.T. and just tells them to do whatever it takes to get a pass :o Licence to print money or what? :D

I'd fail you if you got your todger out during the MOT, too :P ;D
I tend to pay full whack at Autobarn, as they're walking distance from my house (local BMW/Merc/etc specialist) .. think I'll be going to Webby and saving the £20 in future, though ;D
-
Aaron we are round the corner from them! Lol
