Evening kids. Hope you’re all well. 😄
I’ve changed my atf on my ar25 a few times now. I have never dropped the two pans; I simply suck the fluid out and refill. I’ve been happy doing this much to TBs annoyance 😂
However it appears I have developed leaks from both gaskets. Sigh.
On the upside I will get to clean the magnets and change the filter.
I’ve looked for part numbers but the ones in the guides don’t match when I called Vauxhall. The chap who wrote the guide mentioned there is a kit for sale. Anybody got any links to a filter and gasket kit?
Also when I remove the filter (3 bolts I believe) is there a sealing o ring that I need to replace? I’ve done a couple of mercs and they didn’t even have securing bolts.... they had a tube off the filter with one o ring and it just kinda sat there 🤭🤭🤭
Anyway this won’t be done until next month as my track rods arrive tomorrow and I have no money til then 😂😂😂

Got mine[a new filter and both gaskets]from ABS but that was some years ago now.Filter can be cleaned and re-used tough.Reason I bought filter was so I could replace straight away and clean out/dry the filter that was in there already at my leisure.

Refit sumps with sillycon sealent, and wash filter out in the parts washer along with the sumps, blow cooler lines out, refill with 8. 1/2L of the dex3 of choice, and as you have access to lifrs it's not a bad job.

Random question. When I start my car I leave it running for a couple of minutes to warm up. Whilst it’s running will the auto box oil also be warming up? Just a random thought I had 😂😂😂

Yes - it will warm up.
I can read the autobox oil temperature on my Omegas using a bluetooth OBD/ELM dongle and the 'scanmyopel' app on my Android phone.
From memory you are meant to check the level with the engine running and the fluid at about 50degC, (which is what I did) Don't know how important that is though :-\

The fluid expands with heat... The level is designed to reflect normal operating temperature ;)
Check it cold or roasting hot and the optimal level will be dangerously low or high...

It will, but a brief drive is better as you can run it through the gears without stressing anything and this will ensure that you get fluid throughout the box :y

Thanks dg 👍 as said this has nothing to do with changing/ topping up atf.
For ages I’ve been letting car warm up for 2-5 minutes. I was curious to know if I was running a half warm engine on a cold box 😂 as said pure curiosity 👍👍👍

If nothing else the box, a big lump of metal, is bolted to the engine, also a big lump of metal... As one warms up, so will the other and don't forget that the fluid is also running through the radiator... So as the engine and coolant warm up, so does the box and fluid ;)

ATF will gradually warm up at idle, but to get all the fluid thoroughly up to temperature, and to ensure there are no air pockets in the gearbox or cooler (which has a thermostat IIRC) you need to drive it.
When you're driving it, the fluid forms the connection between engine and wheels in the torque converter, so that helps it warm up a little. ;)
