Title: Drivers door lock button problem
Post by: Varche on 27 August 2007, 14:44:01
A few weeks ago the drivers door lock button stopped operating. The other three go up and down as you lock the car or unlock it. I had the same problem about six years ago and the VX stealer replaced something.

When I leave the car anywhere it needs locking, I pop the button down from the back door. If you press the button down or lift it up the other three operate.

Any ideas what the problem is and approx how much the part(s) might be please?

No it doesn't move using the remote. If down it stays down on unlocking. If up it stays up on locking.

I think I've found the answers in the maintenance guides

knackered motor. Bit fiddly to change, needs patience and 'tunnie hands'

It's worth dismantling the motor. So far both my failures have been caused by a microswitch, check the contact resistance of both switches, if you can cope with soldering in the replacement the parts are very cheap.

Had the same problem on my last two Elite's, take off door trim, check electric's, soak the unit in WD40 and work the plunger in & out, they worked fine afterwards. Vauxhall dealer charge £100 plus vat for fitting a new unit (3 year old price before I used WD40 method).
