Title: Just been offered...
Post by: 05omegav6 on 30 December 2011, 12:18:04
for a grand...an 03 3.2 Elite estate. One owner from new, 154000, some tax, grey velour and NCDC 2013 (with discs), Dark blue. 4 legal Goodyears. Bad bits: just starting to do inside edges on front tyres: bushes ::) bodywork is generally ok, no dents, just loads of scratches/fading/flaking laquer, some MoT :-\

Not heard it running, or looked inside/underneath yet...

Thinking maybe £750 worth :-\ (wheels, cats, seats, NCDC/GID, engine/box and associated gubbins, etc) or swap some bits and bobs off mine and move it on as a cheap bus :-\

If it had leather might be a more interesting proposition.

Some tax/Some MOT  ;D

I dont know what others think but I think that £1k is expensive especially if there's a serious amount of scratches. Not that I suppose it matters on omegas but that seems high mileage too.

Has it been on sale long? Get him right down I reckon :)

3-4mm ;) Nothing wrong with mileage, my white one is fast approaching 200k on its original drivetrain 8)

Agree that a grand is a bit rich, but the bloke offering is a trader who committed to the car back in August, as a main dealer part ex, when it might have been worth £1200ish. :-\

Never said that was my problem, just explaining why he's wanting a grand for it ::) that's what it owes him ;)

Front tyre wear could be wishbones. If i wanted it as a private car the scratches would put me off as the value prohibits a repaint, even a home job as would the mileage.

That said if you wanted to swap your plate over & cab it for a year i'd get a printed quote for vx wishbones (£lots), £120+ for two tyres, tell him you understand it owes him more but at this time of year you can only afford £600 for example or what you want to pay. Also ask about the cambelt/water pump. He may decide to cut his losses & take your offer. Much as we love them to the trade they're outdated money pits. The longer he sits on it the less it'll be worth.

Just my humble opinion, Guy. :)

Unfortunately, it's too old ::). would make for a useful selection of spares for mine, sell the left overs and bin the rest :-\ Could be the way forward if it's mechanically sound, but being cloth it has one less thing in its favour. Mileage is not an issue in itself, but does limit the possibilities for cleaning it up/selling on: ie not in any way shape or form...

Whoops, should've thought first! I held a Lewes district hackney for years, many years ago & remember now to get a new car plated it had to be less than 5 years old & could then be renewed to ten years...never lasted that long!!!

Upto 5 years for first plating here, then no upper age limit as long as presentable/keeps passing the 6 monthly MoT. :y
Oldest car I've seen was an M reg 2.5TD CDX saloon. :y Finally died at 500k after its second engine had had enough at about 13 years 8) was starting to look a bit ragged though :-\ Oldest car currently plated here is a 9 year old Octavia :-X

This one...

After the front bushes, a cambelt service and a general tidy up I reckon he'll still be nearly a grand down ::)

i've had 2 elites without leather. mind you they were the 2.5s, not the 3.2. is leather standard on the 3.2 then?

Its a buyers market right now, not a sellers, and certainly the market for 3.2 old Vauxhalls is not what you'd call plentiful!

Personally, 750 is too much when 600 would probably buy the car.

My 64,000 51 plate Omega 2.6 cost me 289 all in, excellent condition and went straight through its MOT, and low mileage facelift Omegas are not a rarity it would seem, so whilst that Omega is perfectly capable of still going on and on at that miles, its less attractive to the next buyer.

It might owe him 1000, but its just after Christmas with a thirsty high mileage car, he should be thankful for what he can get, because the longer he has it, the more hes losing.
