so...........decided not to sell the old girl - just cant part with her.......

but..........been driving with Autogrips which grip about as well in the wet as a metal tray on ice  >:(

Got caught out simply by the camber of a roundabout the other day in wet weather (and I am careful) which made the end swing out narrowly missing a lamp-post so I need to get these death traps off the car asap ..... :'(

Ive typed tyres in the search but its all old posts - only gonna do the rears for now as I don't want to die any time soon

Researched tyres such as Uniroyal Rainsport 3 and Good year then checked reviews online and quite a lot of negative views on them despite 'A' ratings. im 46 and know when to drive enthusiastically and not - but even when no acceleration is applied, the weight of the barge is enough to send the bum out!

need some recommendations folks - wet grip a priority - only a 2.2 auto so not mad power going down. Failing that, some 2 x 2 slabs in the boot! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Sigh.....................

Just about to sell the old girl when driving back from work tonight up pops the EML - no limp mode.

Gets home- disconnects the battery, reconnect, still there........................

Gets my OBD/OBD2 reader out (some D900 thingy), select GM, tries to connect but says connection cannot be made  :'(

Is it only a Tech 2 that can read the DTC's? My mig is 2001 2.2 CDX  - don't fancy getting stitched up at my local Vauxhall garage either!!

help!!

Omega General Help / Rear offiside creaking - handbrake shoes??
« on: 24 June 2015, 12:52:45 »
So.....

Just put the car through an MOT 2 weeks ago and passed with flying colours - had just fitted new shocks and rear exhaust too. Have noticed that when first pulling away or going over bumps i get a creaking noise from the back drivers wheel area - so, had mechanic check the bushes - all fine, new shocks so not a problem but its still happening.

Hard to describe but its not like a clunk - more like if you had a very heavy door that creaked when opening. MOT didnt pick up any issues with bushes, wheel bearings are fine so im stumped. When its sat stationary and i push down on that corner i can hear it.

Someone had said that it could be the handbrake shoes worn and pressing against the internal drum - the handbrake passed the mot but has stuck before.

anyone else heard of this? Im selling her shortly but as im honest, dont want to pass on a problem!!  :D :D :D :D :D

Well the little niggles continue but even after being loaned my father in laws S Type 3.0 V6 while my car was MOT'd, loved plonking my backside back in Miggy.

Now the temp in Scotland is reaching summer proportions (10 degrees+) , decided after owning the girl since Sept to put a guage on the A/C as it wasn't working - nowt there. Had a can of EZ Chill so CAREFULLY, topped up to the minimum - no more!!
Set the ECO to off, temp to LO, turned it up and lo and behold, ccompressor kicked in and off it went.

Thinking id be able to bask in cold air, jumped back in the car and waited..............and waited..............and waited. Stuck the guage on, pressure above min,- blowing warm air.

Checked fuses etc etc - still blowing warm air. Turned it off and on again - could feel everything engage- still warm.

Now- im fairly certain the previous owners paid no attention to the A/C- Ive left it for 2 hours, re-gauged it and it hasn't lost pressure (no leak?).

Could it be something simple im missing or will I require a full a/c service (ill avoid KW, ATS etc etc- heard some horror stories)

Obviously if its a diy fix then fine - just wanted to see if anyone else had that issue

 ;D

Here goes

Had my car for a few months now and know when its wet to take care however I have an issue with the rear end 'drifting' worse on one side than the other.

I do find i have to take extra care when its wet despite the car being heavy - and thats driving normally and sensibly. The back end seems very light however I almost came a cropper this morning so need some advice.

The rear right end seems to kick out and slide far too easy at very low speeds with even light touch of the accelerator - more so than the other side i.e. if making a left turn.

Its not my imagination and both sides have the same tyres fitted (dont seem to be premium brands).

Been scratching my head as to why one side is a bit more prone than the other - especially at low speed. Tyre pressures are the same , nuts are all tight.

Getting to the stage where I am considering getting rid of it unless i can come up with a solution :( any ideas

Morning all

Got a 2001 2.2 CDX with the CCR 2006 audio unit - working perfectly well last night, sunroof open, cd blasting (although its 5 degrees in Scotland!)

Got into car this morning, ejected the magazine, changed the cds, popped the mag back in but it wouldn't take it in. Switched it off and off again, nope, mechanism wont pull it in - been working fine- no safe messages or anything.

anyone else had this issue???

Hi all

After the recent cold spell my battery was giving me so much problems so I changed it on Saturday. Prior to this, it it were dead or needed recharged, never got any warning lights.

Since the new battery has gone in, after about 5 minutes driving the warning light comes on - the one with the car and the spanner. Turn the engine off and on again, goes out but 5 mins later - back on!

Nowe, car is not in limp mode and feels like it is driving normally with no other warnings shown - its a 2000 Y 2.2 petrol and only has 65k on the clock - spookily, this has only happened after fitting the new battery.

any ideas?

Omega General Help / No traction control as standard on 2001 CDX??
« on: 19 September 2014, 09:51:23 »
Hi all

Loving the new Miggy but was reminded the other day of the joy of rear wheel drive and wet roundabouts  :D !!!!
What was surprising is that the traction control light didn't come on nor did I feel it either! Tried this morning in the wet by rocketing away from standstill but no - no traction control! I can see the TC legend on the dash but never lights up!
Don't have a button for it either on the console
Was traction and optional extra on this motor? Thought it would have been standard! >:(   - pity, think ill need it!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Think my power sounder is on its way
« on: 10 September 2014, 15:51:01 »
Hi all- 4 weeks after purchase I have noticed that on occasion, I get 4 beeps when I switch off the engine. Alarm isn't going off tho.
Read a great 'how to' remove the power sounder but noticed it was was for pre-facelift model
I intend removing it/disconnecting at some point but I have a 2001 CDX- is it in the same location as pre-facelift and is the procedure the same?
Help would be much appreciated  :o
