General Car Chat / Sports Car Pioneers
« on: 21 March 2014, 00:10:06 »
Some of you will know that my father and his business partner started Rochdale Motor Panels in the late 40's and went on to develop the Rochdale marque of car culminating in the Rochdale Olympic.

Over the last couple of years I have been included in the writing of a book on the marque by one of the owners club members and it is soon to be printed, which as you can see I am proud to share with you all

This is the authors website announcing the book for anyone interested

General Discussion Area / Broadband - Result
« on: 10 January 2014, 22:27:24 »
After much deliberation on how to achieve my upgrade to Fibre broadband thought I would give Sky a call about what they can offer to stop me from going to BT. Currently got BB unlim, line, unlim calls & tv (ent +) with them

Told them I wanted to upgrade to FB unlimited and get rid of TV package - after 30 min "discuss" with the nice young scottish lass got FB unlimited, Line, w/e calls & TV (ent+) for £17/month less than current - 12 month contract.

RESULT  :y :y :y 8)

Always worth a call and threaten to cancel with Sky.
Diary note made to do the same next Jan  ;D ;D

General Discussion Area / Broadband Restrictions
« on: 06 January 2014, 18:01:03 »
Hi all - Happy new year

Been having a bit of trouble accessing certain internet sites recently and have discovered that my ISP (SKY) have put a restriction on, without prior notice, consultation or request.

I really do object to this  >:( >:(

The sites are the type that provide music/video etc, not porn  ::) so why should I/we be restricted to the sites THEY decide to allow us access to. Is this to ensure that we use just their services and their charges (free or not).

I am curious as to the good/varied opinions that are always expressed on here on this. Freedom of choice/use, legality etc etc

Also is your ISP doing the same, or not, as I am seriously considering changing because of this, and I want to to upgrade to fibre to stream more.

General Discussion Area / Le Mans 1955 Disaster
« on: 25 September 2013, 00:09:46 »
Have just watched a documentary about this on BBC Four.

Although I have seen this crash before. The more detailed up to date analysis of the crash showing what caused it and the aftermath really shows the danger that existed for the spectators, and drivers, in those days.

What shocked me is that certain details are still secret today and that there is no memorial or remembrance for those that died and suffered that day.  >:( :( :'(

If you haven't seen i'm sure it will be on IPlayer, would recommend

Omega General Help / Loss of power & slight miss fire
« on: 29 July 2013, 11:02:24 »
During our annual 1100 mile journey south suddenly started feeling a loss of power, box kept kicking down even on the level and a slight miss fire with high revs. Switched to petrol and although not as bad still present.

Pulled in at next services looked under bonnet. Car ticking over ok rev it high no missfire, Coolant/oil level ok no obvious cause. Only odd thing was a rattling noise from under car, around the cat area - heat sink maybe? gave it a couple of knocks and a wiggle and seemed to be the actual cat although couldn't tell. Checked all round for loose vac pipes etc nothing really obvious - new GM plugs so maybe not them, coil pack maybe ?

Anyway it was 35.5 degree's so thought it might be related so set off to see. Still there so push on the next services.

Then going up a big hill the power loss and miss fire got worse as though fuel was running out, kept my foot down and then "whoomph" a sudden increase in power like a turbo had kicked in and everything was fine, if not better. Car has become more responsive, more oomph, and the ave mpg has gone up by 10 !!!!?

So to me the clue is the cat, rattle is more pronounced and exhaust note is slightly lower. Did it somehow become blocked and then blow through? It is a 2 yr old pattern one (i know don't but I did) and a new rear silencer fitted just before setting off.
