1]How big was this gull?!!!!!
2]How little was the dog?
3]What was the dogs owner doing while this was happening?

Walking home today I was passed by a                snot green 51 plate Astra estate which was followed close behind by a            [slightly darker shade of] snot green 09 plate Corsa!! Beware people they could be coming to a street near you soon!
Just think STMO could be known as a trendsetter :o or even as the founding member of the SGVG[snot green Vauxhall group] :D

General Discussion Area / Nearly right
« on: 09 July 2015, 18:16:48 »
Walking home from work tonight I was catching up with a man, woman and a young girl of about 8 or 9.Man says to little girl"Come on then we'll cross the road".Woman then says to girl "Hold daddies hand"Man then says to girl"Right what do you do?"Girl replies"Stop look and listen" At this I thought at least some people are trying to teach their kids road sense. They so nearly got it right as the only fly in the ointment was that they were crossing between the only two cars parked at the roadside for about a quarter of a mile in either direction!!

General Discussion Area / 2 old 1 new
« on: 06 July 2015, 19:35:31 »
Today among the eurobox dross that normally fetches up on the car park there were 2 "oldies" and 1 "newbie" out of the ordinary.First up was the newer of the "oldies",this was a "H" reg.Mark1 Escort twin cam with bulged arches and period correct-if not genuine-wide wheels.Next up came the "newbie"in some way this proved something of a let down.At first-albeit brief-glance I thought Ford had produced a very good looking 2door Mondeo coupe, but it was in fact an Aston Martin DB9!As a Mondeo coupe it was very nice, but as an Aston although it still obviously looked very nice it looked too much like a Mondeo!!For me however the pick of the day arrived mid-afternoon.Not a mint example but a honest well used Riley RM,I'd quite happily have brought that home with me given the chance!

General Car Chat / Pigeon fanciers?
« on: 28 June 2015, 07:57:39 »
Out walking the dog this morning when two youngish looking[they were wearing baseball caps with the peaks on the back]came past in a pretty standard looking Golf.About 500 yards up the road they came to a halt and sounded the horn,my first thought was that it was a daft place to stop and pick someone up as they hadn't pulled into the kerb or anything.A couple of seconds after horn sounded hazard flashers came on,then a couple of cars pulled up behind them and a queue began to form waiting to get round the Golf.By this time I'd got level with Golf when a pigeon that'd been stood in the road took flight at which event the Golf moved off, they'd been waiting for the damn bird to shift!!!!

When re-taxing a car if you're wanting[needing]to change taxation class from disabled back to private car-or whatever it's called these days-can you do this online or is it a trip to post office?

General Discussion Area / While I think on
« on: 14 June 2015, 10:57:36 »
A while ago now I posed the question "how do I  get smilies into my posts"-or words to that effect-chrisgixer kindly answered that for me and since then I've tried, but when I click on required smiley and bring it down into position in the post and let go of the bar[or whatever it's called]the smiley disappears and a load of letters appear in its place!!Clearly I'm doing something wrong here but what?

General Discussion Area / Getting fed up now
« on: 14 June 2015, 10:28:18 »
Last Saturday afternoon I'd got spare time sorted but the wind-especially the gusts-were too high to risk having the bonnet up for any length of time.So got spare time today and it's raining! Will I ever get those plug wells emptied and the cam covers changed?Who knows! The weather always seems to be great whenever I have no spare time but as soon as I do it all goes to pot!!Starting to get really fed up of it now.

Omega General Help / How much oil?
« on: 06 June 2015, 15:21:55 »
Car has leaking cam covers-I was going to do them this afternoon but it's too blustery round here to risk having bonnet up,so hopefully will get them done tomorrow.Last time I used it the check oil message flashed up at motorway speeds but disappeared at town driving speeds, should it do this? However in case I get same message in future how much oil is then needed once the message appears to bring it back to the correct level? Is there a recognized amount or is it a case of keep adding some until dipstick shows you've got it right?I just don't want to be overfilling it.

General Discussion Area / Been tinkering...
« on: 05 June 2015, 21:33:10 »
...with the motorbike tonight.Fitted a brand new battery and in line fuse.Ignition on the "N" light lights up,the horn  works and the starter spins the motor over, but no spark at the plug and no headlight, taillight, brake light or indicators! So further investigations needed all round, the trouble being vehicle electrics of any kind are a black art to me!!!

General Car Chat / Was it a wind up?
« on: 04 June 2015, 18:43:33 »
Mate of mine told me he'd been working on a 15 plate Skoda Octavia which had a radar behind the front grille, now that bit I can believe as part of a parking aid and/or anti collision device, but he also said it was fitted with a post collision braking system. Was he winding me up?What is the point of applying the brakes after you've had the accident?

General Discussion Area / Decisions decisions
« on: 02 June 2015, 19:30:32 »
So something has to go.On the one hand there's my XJ6 this has been stood for about a year and a half,so to return to the road would need at least 3 new tyres[the 4th was new just before I took it off the road]as these are old/flat for some time+the brakes would need a good dose of looking at+anything else that may have deteriorated during its long slumber. On the other there's my Omega, this needs cam covers doing breathers cleaning[although I do have some more covers and gaskets to hand for this+the cambelt is on mileage about 20,000mls overdue.I can't really do this myself as I don't have a locking kit and the chances of my finding the spare time to do it are slim, but then I can't afford to pay someone else to do it either! So do I e-bay the XJ as a spares or repairs car and use any proceeds on the Omega or do I e-bay the Omega and use any proceeds to return the XJ to the road or as a third option e-bay the pair of them and use accumulated funds to get summat else? But if third option what do I get that's a large comfortable saloon with a leather interior?I wouldn't mind a 4.2 A8 but prices remain stupidly high for these,BMWs are out as I've had two and blown the engines out of both of them and there aren't that many Mercs I like especially that would come within my likely budget. So which way to jump?

General Car Chat / Poorer standards?
« on: 02 June 2015, 19:09:34 »
Dealership bodyshop that I know has of late been dealing with increasing numbers of warranty claims on the latest Transit vans.Apparently the doors are fowling on the front wings on opening or closing. Is this just poorer standards or in their drive for more profit by moving production abroad have Ford accepted lower standards or indeed have they as Rootes did years ago with the Imp moved production to an area where the workforce have no experience of building vehicles?
