General Discussion Area / Browsing
« on: 31 May 2015, 07:41:18 »
Just been browsing e-bay-as you do-looked in on classic cars and under Vauxhall/Opel there's one particular ad which just says "classic car spares or repairs" no vehicle details no pictures no other description at all!!!!!But it does have a classified ad price! How not to advertise a car?Or a clever sales ploy to generate interest?

Are they positive or negative earth?Bike in question is a Lexmoto 125 I've bought. It had no battery fitted so I've bought one for it but need to know which way round to connect it,then I can find out what else it needs to make it run!

General Discussion Area / Questions
« on: 25 May 2015, 14:50:09 »
I've bought a motorbike dirt cheap as a non runner which I hope to get going to use as a commuter for work. It's a Lexmoto Street 125.So questions
1] I bought it without any paperwork-a check with DVLA shows it's not been taxed since March 2014-can I apply for V5 on line or is it a post office job?
2]Anyone know best place to get a battery for it?
3]Is there a way to tell if it's seized without a battery on it-there is no kick start on this model?
On question 3 I've taken plug out,put it in gear and tried turning rear wheel but this just stops solid once chain slack or something is taken up,so does this point to seizure?

Auction on e-bay today for a motorbike[I use the term loosely!]it's a 2012 Lexmoto 125 street,it's a little bit of a project as it's a non-runner.Waiting now to hear from seller about convenience of picking it up tomorrow afternoon, then set about finding out why it don't go.At least it was dirt cheap so even if I can't figure it out I can always resell it and not lose too much if anything.

General Discussion Area / Any way to tell?
« on: 20 May 2015, 19:18:17 »
Got a new torque wrench ready for when I tackle cam cover change. It's a Toolzone make, feels a little stiff to me but that could be just because it's new,or maybe it's just a crap make I don't know.Anyway is there any way to tell whether it's clicking off at the correct value?Something else on the car that's the same torque that I can try on or some other way?

General Discussion Area / Worrying
« on: 19 May 2015, 18:34:49 »
Had reason today to hop into a driving school car-a well known nationwide school-to move it just a few yards, all perfectly legit and authorised.Anyway gets in and there on the drivers side screen pillar is a little sticker in the shape of an R while on the passengers side screen pillar is another one in the shape of an L! What kind of learner drivers have we got that don't know left from right without some kind of prompting? This is worrying these people are supposedly in charge of what is potentially a lethal weapon!!and they're coming soon to a street near you!!!!

General Discussion Area / Winglets
« on: 18 May 2015, 20:59:40 »
These days I only get to see any motorcycle racing on ITV4,although their coverage is ok in fact I think the MotoGP racing is taken directly from BT Sport,I do miss out on practice/qualifying and also on technical stuff. So what purpose do the winglets on the Ducatis serve? Not seen them on other manufacturers machines,so why Ducati?

General Discussion Area / How arrogant!
« on: 16 May 2015, 15:54:38 »
Finished work today and popped into bank to pay a bill. All three cahiers were busy and two people waiting,so Joined queue behind them to make it a queue of three.Must've been there all of 30 seconds or so when a couple joined the line behind me a further minute or so later bloke behind me piped up loud enough for staff and customers to hear saying he thought the idea of queueing was disgusting and didn't see why he should have to as after all he was after paying in rather a lot of money!!!How arrogant can some people be?Was tempted to turn round and tell him what to do with his money but decided against the idea,he might have gained some kind of satisfaction from getting a reaction from someone.

Omega General Help / Recommendations?
« on: 14 May 2015, 20:26:41 »
I will in the very near future be changing cam covers and gaskets. What recommendations-if any-does anyone have for holding "o"rings and gaskets in place on cam cover so they don't drop all over the place when the covers are being placed back onto engine?Nothing appears in guide about this so does that mean nothing is needed and gaskets etc. will stay put?

General Discussion Area / Honesty at least
« on: 12 May 2015, 13:27:13 »
Had to have day away from work to wait for gas fitter[landlords annual safety check]so when a knock at the door came I thought this was him.But no it was neighbour from next door but one,and she says "I'm sorry I've just driven into your car"What,oh marvellous!!!Went and had a look and as she'd been reversing up behind my car she'd come up against the towbar. As she was only going very slowly anyway there was no damage even to her back bumper[just a slight rub mark that'll easily polish out on hers],so I asked her if the parking sensors didn't work as if not she should take it back to dealer[it's only a month old]but she told me yes they do work it's just she doesn't understand what the beeps mean!!!!Explained all that to her,and what the dashboard display was telling her.Hopefully she'll take on board all this, but then she's a woman so I'm not banking on that!!!At least she was honest enough to call and admit it.

Breakers yard local to me had 2 P/F/L 2.5 V6's in for a while, been today to see if any of the cam covers were straight only to find that they'd both been crushed in the last couple of days and the only Omega now available for parts is a S reg 2.5 diesel Elite! Not going to get any cam covers off that!!Well not for mine anyway.

General Car Chat / New TR anyone?
« on: 04 May 2015, 12:46:47 »
According to the TR register the tooling for the Triumph TR2 was sold to Russia in the '70s and a surviving plant there does occasionally produce a new one.By tooling I presume they mean for the bodyshell, floorpans, doors etc.?If that's correct I wonder what sort of motor/drivetrain they put in there.

Did think I was gunna be doing cam covers and gaskets today but couldn't get any straight covers-mine are warped-so instead I was gunna nip out and get a few more plants and do a bit of gardening instead, but no it's hashing it down here!Still it's bank holiday what weather did I expect!!

General Discussion Area / car show
« on: 02 May 2015, 20:52:38 »
There was a small car show hosted by the local branch of the MMOC in town today.Just a few motorbikes of which the star for me was a beautiful Black Shadow. As for the cars well there were of course a good few "Moggies"a TR3A,1500 Allegro VDP,P4 Rover 75 a 1978 Opel Ascona 1.6 that was bought in SLady bitshorpe and lived in Brigg all its life and been in the same family since 1980 and had a 1.6N engine  as opposed to the "S" version which replaced it soon after launch.Again star of the show car wise for me was a Morris 8[1940's?]Sadly not much info was displayed on this one and I didn't see the owner but it had wider than standard wheels/tyres,twin tail pipes and a V8 up front with Edelbrock inlet/carb/air filter what a beauty!!
