General Car Chat / Had intended to mot Jag...
« on: 30 September 2013, 20:31:55 »
...but checking through paperwork I found the Mig was due up for mot.Where the heck does the time go?Anyway changed mot appointment from Jag to Mig and took it in,it did me proud and flew through-and not even one advisory!!So that's about a year and a half I've owned it,two mots passed[andI think if I recall correctly it went straight through last years test as well]so not bad for a £400 sight unseen e-bay purchase!!Jag will have to wait until next month for its test and then I can see about selling it.

General Car Chat / No more T2
« on: 27 September 2013, 19:57:46 »
Vw have finally pulled the plug on the T2 van/camper.In fairness they've had to as it could no longer meet safety regulations and it's only been Brazilian made for some time now.So if that's your thing grab one of the last 600 they're making they'll soon be worth a small fortune!!!

General Discussion Area / Another icon retires
« on: 21 September 2013, 14:30:25 »
I'm referring to the VC10,which is being retired-has been retired?-I recall these being introduced and thinking what a stunning looking aircraft it was at the time, what with it's high set tail plane[as with the Victor V-bomber]and it's four engines twinned on the rear fuselage,ah well such is progress I suppose.

General Discussion Area / Only caught part..
« on: 18 September 2013, 19:46:38 »
..of a news item on ITVs Calendar news programme, but it seems someone is restoring a WW1 DH9 aircraft to flying condition. They hope to have it in the air by the end of the year and then hope to sell it to fund another restoration project.I assume that this is happening somewhere in the Yorkshire region with it being on Calendar-but I could be wrong on that-it would be good to see it in flight though and there is no other in the world-at least flying-of this type.Perhaps other more learned people on here will put me right on this and on where the project is taking place.

General Discussion Area / New Series...
« on: 13 September 2013, 19:22:11 »
...of Wheeler Dealers begins next Tuesday at 9p.m.First up is a Lambourghini Uracco.I wonder what they'll find wrong with that to allow Mr.Brewer to buy it at a bargain price, but will only cost pence to correct[instead of potentially hundreds to sort]in order for him to flog it on for a daft profit?

General Discussion Area / Potential champion?
« on: 07 September 2013, 19:34:47 »
Don't know if anyone else on here follows it,but we have a potential world champion in the form of Tai Woffinden.Who's he?Well he's a Brit who has-among others-ridden for SLady bitshorpe Scorpions a Speedway team and he's now obviously on the world stage and doing rather well at it too!!

General Discussion Area / She's well happy!
« on: 30 August 2013, 19:58:28 »
Dragonlady took delivery of a motability scooter this morning. It's a Kymco Mini LS,takes to pieces to fit in car boot 4mph top speed and a max range of 12miles.She's been out and about on it all day,so much so that at 4.30 I got a text at work to say she'd run out of battery power!!So she had to wait more than 3/4 hr for me to leave work and pick her and the scooter up to go home.Despite this hiccup she's well chuffed as she's basically regained her freedom of movement[as long as she learns to stay within range!!]

General Discussion Area / What's it for?
« on: 29 August 2013, 20:38:18 »
During our recent move I found a brand new grille. It's black plastic, and measures 63cms at its widest and58cms at its narrowest,it's 13cms deep not counting a "lip"at the top that you wouldn't see with a bonnet closed over it.It has the GM logo on the back,so obviously for a Vauxhall of some type. The part number stamped[moulded?]on the back is 90 287 108.So does anyone have a clue what it would fit?I haven't a clue how I've come to own it[I don't recall ever buying such an item],but could do with knowing what it's for so I can flog it on e-bay or something.

General Discussion Area / The stuff I've kept!
« on: 14 August 2013, 13:08:57 »
Sorting through all sorts of odds and ends I've found a Motor Fuel Ration Book. For those of you with long enough memories you may recall that 1974 saw the country in the grip of a fuel shortage scare,it was at this time I bought a 1964 Mk3 Zephyr 4.This was/is the only car I've ever bought on finance[it was on a traders forecourt at £99!!]Anyway as the fuel scare was on it was supplied with a book of coupons to be used when purchasing petrol[it was of course never needed]and although the car went to the breakers donkeys years ago I've still got the coupons!!On the front it has [among other things]the following;Motor Car 1501-2200cc 14-19HP!!

General Discussion Area / Move went well
« on: 14 August 2013, 12:57:24 »
It has dragged on a bit as I was moving us solo,as she couldn't help as she's disabled, and I'm getting old!But all in all it went smoothly and I only broke two cups in the entire process! Most important thing is she's well chuffed with the new place and if she's happy my life is a lot more peaceful!!!

General Discussion Area / Hope I don't miss much
« on: 09 August 2013, 23:18:45 »
Well moving day finally arrives tomorrow. Our cable provider will disconnect the service as of then and can't set it up at our new place until Wednesday so I'll be out of touch with the forum between the two dates.I know I don't post every day but even when I don't I enjoy reading some of the posts on here.

General Discussion Area / Computer idiot
« on: 07 August 2013, 21:53:41 »
Well ok an all round idiot not just when it comes to computers, but try as I may I just cannot get my head round how to get pics into the gallery.I've read and re-read the instructions for photo bucket and drop box but the more I read them the more confused I get.I can take reasonable photos with one of these new fangled digital cameras,I can upload/download/offload or whatever it is you do these photos onto the computer,I've even learned how to attach them to an e-mail and send that[although I'm limited at present to one photo per e-mail as I've not yet sussed how to attach more than one photo to a message!]So it looks like I'll have to give the gallery part a miss.

General Car Chat / Seen today
« on: 07 August 2013, 21:42:16 »
Walking to work this morning and coming the other way on the road was a type of car I've not seen in yonks. It was a "H" reg VW Karmann Ghia convertible. In metallic green it looked stunning,I don't know whether the colour was an original colour option but it really suited this VW.It looked to be a bit of a minter so I'm assuming it must have been restored at some point, certainly looked very well cared for.I used to see a silver coupe version on a regular basis but I've not seen that one around for a while, but as said this is the first soft top I've seen outside of a classic car show.for a good many years.

General Discussion Area / Armed robbery
« on: 06 August 2013, 21:13:35 »
It has been on local news tonight that an armed robbery has taken place on a jewellers in Beverley. The getaway car of choice was described as a silver Vauxhall Omega car!!It seems the police have now found this[but not the robbers]which just goes to show that if they'd visited this site they'd have known to carry a spare crank sensor!!!
