MV6 - HELP!
« on: 08 May 2013, 13:24:22 »

I've seen a nice MV6 Estate.  :y

Can somebody please give me a reason why buying an MV6 would be a very bad idea.  :-\

I want it, but I shouldn't. I mean I've just spent a fortune on my X reg 2.5 V6 Elite so that it's now ok. C'mon there must be some good logical, sensible reason to not do it  ::)  Much to my surprise my Mrs said, "well get it and have two Omegas" ! WHAT, that is NOT what I was expecting.  ;)

You will need planning permission for a garage bigger than Mr Twiglets if you buy any more  ::) :P ;D

Actually, I've been thinking. Apart from a bit more horsepower, what's so special about the MV6 ?

Where does it sit in the Omega trim levels, you know, CD, CDX then Elite.

Are there any particular reliability or maintenenace issues ? My 2000 2.5 V6 Elite has been a bit of a nightmare. This MV6 is '03 and pretty low miles. Should it be better ?

You know what, I'm thinking so much it'll probably get sold !

If the guv has given her approval  . . .what are you waiting for .. . .go & get it now  ;) ;)

Is it a 2.6   or 3.2  ?

FL   MV6 's  have LSC    lowered sports chassis . . & handle much better than the other models.

ride is a bit more harsh  . . but IMO   . . not that much  . . .still very comfortable.

No Bose stereo, some have leather . & generally not as many toys as the elites .

For example mine has heated cloth  seats , No sunroof,  , 2006 stereo, electric windows , electric

mirrors & probably a few other bits i can't think of right now.

the handling & ride are the biggest difference IMO  goes round bends like it's on rails compared to the  soft sprung Elites I've had in the past

HTH    :y :y :y

Thanks Al. Thats helpful

It's 3.2, cloth upholstery, doesn't look like there's a sunroof, but so what ? they break anyway. Way less than 100k miles. My reason for being interested is that it's very late and possibly my last chance to get another decent Omega.

Ohhhh . . . . . errrrrrrrrrrrrrr . . . . . dither dither dither.

Trouble is it's not local. So just going to see it is a whole day.

request on here that an oof member who is local to the car  has a quick look for you. Most Oof members are very helpful . Save you  a long trip if it's a bad un'.

You gotta be quick though  . . . good ones don't hang around  ;) ;)

Are you sure its an MV6 and not ex plod ?,as they are often advertised as an MV6 rather than "special".

Plod spec MV6 is below GLS spec, but often has LSD.

Retail spec FL MV6 is approx CD spec. Rarely has LSD, in contrary to what stated above.

Retail spec PFL MV6 is approx CDX spec.

Probably not ex-plod, unless the selling really is lying like hell. Plus It's not white. Same owner for some years.

Post up the link to it (or pm if you'd prefer) so we can give a sensible answer rather than just guessing ::)

Alternatively send Jimbob a polite message with the reg and he can confirm or deny :y

Ps if it's a 3.2 manual then it is almost definitely ex plod :y i've had mine over 4 years, so longer term ownershipmeans nowt in that respect.

Don't have the Reg

It's Auto

Not sure, but I think it's been a company car.

I am now the owner of two Omegas  ;) . . . but realistically I'll need to get rid of the old one.

So . . . some details
Vauxhall Omega 3.2 V6 24V MV6 5dr Auto Estate 2003

The Bad: Filthy car, under the bonnet full of leaves and stuff from trees etc. Drove it back from Midlands to London, some intermittant shudder at certain speeds. Nearside lock does not always work centrally. Mix of cheap tyres. Used to be run by sellers sister who had horses, so lots of muddy bits and scruffy read load area

The Good: Some service history, dealer till around 50k miles. Nothing nasty on HPI. 75K seems genuine. Zero visible rust. No obvious dents. Passed from Father to sister to son so history. Drives great ! Almost frighteningly fast. Alloys wheels in good nick.

Conclusion. I think this will scrub up nicely. Need to get cam belt/tensioners/pump done. Paid £1,600  prob a bit OTT but hey ! I saw someone trying to sell on 03 elite for almost £5k.

Aye the 3.2 can shift, Had a small burst but stopping Oh dear. was a hell of a experience lots of juddering pulling to the side thought the car was going to fall apart (wasn't going that fast honest ::) ;D)

Noticed a fair few peeps getting 3.2s recently, Nice to see their still popular with fuel prices an all  ;)

How much  :o
Is that what they are going for nowdays  :o :o
I only paid 550 quid for my 02 plate with 123,000 miles on the clock  :o :o

Ok, it needs some tlc on the bodywork / interior and had a few issues (which most are now fixed for next to nowt)  but it drives brilliantly   :D :D

Now I've just got to get the bugger working on lpg so I can afford too drive it  :'( :'(

IMO   any car for sale is worth what ever someone is willing to pay for it. Be it a couple of hundred or top money for that particular model.

You only have to look at the omegas Mr.Budden has for sale    . . & he does sell them  ::) ::) ::) ::)

If your looking to buy a omega and hopefully never have to spend anything on it other then service parts then he is definitely your man but if your handy with a spanner, don't mind using it and with the information that can be found on here, you would be mad to spend 3 grand plus on a omega  :-\

Hmm, I know someone who bought a Miggy from him and it was an absolute disaster, could have been a one-off I suppose.

"Reasonable economy" ?  ;D   ;D It really can't be very much worse than my 2.5 V6 Elite

Should be better than the 2.5 :y more power and torque at any given rpm=less effort required 8)

Although the noise accelerating through 4000 rpm is something quite addictive ::)

Took it on a 200 mile round trip today and if the mpg calculator is to be believed I got 28.8 mpg. So not too bad seeing as the road from me to Kings Lynn are mostly not dual carriageway and a bit stop-start. I was a bit right-foot careful but not obsessive  ;) Floored it a couple of times for overtaking and watched the screen drop to 7 mpg   ::)
