Any MG lovers amongst us?
« on: 05 May 2016, 17:23:46 »

My mate has just sold his MG Midget 1971 vintage via a chap called Barry Pryke based in Hertfordshire, went along with him today whilst he completed paperwork I had a look at some of his stock some very nice vehicles &  genuine nice guy to deal with .My friend has bought a 1974 MGB GT V8 unseen, apart from pics on the internet from New Zealand ! Should be arriving early July , I've got the job of trailering it back from Tilbury docks.

I always thought the MGC was that little bit different.

Apparently they handle like a dog on polished lino though. :-X

Would've thought with the numbers floating about over here already that it'd have to be something really special to make it a viable proposition to import one.Personally always preferred the Alpine,or for a bit more grunt the Tiger.

I've seen the pics & read the article on the car if it is as good as it looks  it will probably be one of the best in the UK
My mate is an absolute MG fanatic ( anorak) he knows part numbers & chassis numbers and all sorts of facts.

The tuner called Costello rings a bell.

Yep Ken Costello from Sidcup - credited with stuffing the Rover V8 into the MGB first - although we did this conversion on my mates MGB roadster prior to Leyland announcing the MGBV8.  IIRC he had an engineering business, he used to race too.

He used to race a Cooper S in the 60s - came up against him a couple of times.  Believe he went on to Holbay Anglias, but may be wrong there.

The thought of the asthmatic Rover V8 (all be it a lighter engine than the B series) in an MGB fills me with dread, it could not cope with the output of the B series! (with the horrific three bearing crank in the early ones!)

I should add that it was the MGR V8 that always made me chuckle!

Wouldn't be my choice to spend £20,000 on with taxes & shipping costs, to basic for my liking but they do burble well.

Think you could spend £20k on something far better, more interesting and likely to appreciate in value far more  :y
