STEMO, my "Hmmm" was one of disapproval; I still think the buyer took advantage of the old chap's naivity  - as the car had appreciated in value, just getting back his original purchase price is endearingly innocent - but the purchaser was not!  >:(

Let's look st the facts here, Ron.
Window cleaner is offered an old escort which he thinks his son might like to replace his stolen mini. He has no idea of its value and when he asks someone else, i.e. Tilbo, he is told 'if you don't want it, I'll have it'. Decides to buy car and gives it to his son, with no thought of turning a quick profit.
Nothing wrong with that.

If you found a gem of a buy at a car boot sale, and the seller just happened to be old, would you offer the price you thought it might be worth, or give her a quid and run?

Good luck to the lad , the old boy would never have sold it to a stranger has known Paul the father for years so everyone​ is happy. Would I have bought it ?  No had one back in the seventies like a bit more comfort now.😉
