Smart meters , whats yours?
« on: 16 December 2022, 10:08:15 »

Some friends in the UK that have a totally electric house ( although they have just had a log burner installed) are clocking up around £15 a day! Yesterday was £16.80.

Is that the norm? What is yours during this cold spell?

No idea, but in the summer, my direct debit was £366 a month.

Don't/won't have a smart meter, but do have one of those clamp meter type electric monitors, but CBA to put the until rate in ;D.  Also, being on a standard variable rate, my standing charge is well over 50p a day alone, before any little electrical pixies run up and down the wires.

No idea personally as we don’t have a smart meter, not for the want of them trying to force one on us though. I do know that my brother-in-law moans when their meter gadget goes anywhere near £4. They have gas central heating and the usual stuff on electric, lights, kettle, tumble drier etc. He only puts the Christmas tree lights on when somebody visits.  ;D

After all the hassle my late sister in law had with her smart meter they can stick them where the sun don't shine.  TBF, i was totally against them anyway,
and they make people obsessive about what they use.

We have a smart meter but not one of those gadgets indoors that are supposed to tell you what your costs are, from what I've read/heard about them they're pretty inaccurate anyway, the meter was here when we moved in 4 years ago . Our heating is on now but we've lowered the thermostat by a couple of degrees just see how it works out.

I've resisted smart meters, even though it was even a condition of a contract I had with Eon.  I was always out or had Covid when they wanted to come round.  :-X

I recently read that if you have a smart meter and fall behind with your bills they can switch them to Pay As You Go.  :-\  No thanks!  :)

I know how much per KWH I’m paying for gas and electricity and as I can read my metres quite easily I’ve no need to be told by tech. I can work it out quite quickly and easily myself, it keeps my brain alive😂

This ^^^^^
I'm sick of the idiots telling me I'll save money with a smart meter. If an appliance generates heat, it costs money. Simple.

I've resisted smart meters, even though it was even a condition of a contract I had with Eon ………

Same here. They notified me a while back saying that I’d agreed to it as part of my contract terms but I assured them that it wouldn’t work. They sent one of their team out anyway as I’m sure they didn’t believe me. He tested it with a ping test I’m guessing and he got no signal, zilch, nada, nothing. He looked very confused until I told him that the electric meter cupboard has a galvanised bi-fold door and foil backed plasterboard on the other three sides.  ;D  I found this out when BT installed my broadband and put the router in the electric meter cupboard, so the only place that I could receive broadband was in the cupboard.  ;D
Obviously it’s been relocated now.  :)

I got pestered endlessly to get one, and eventually gave in. Appointment made

They couldn't do it due to the layout of the house and thick stone walls which prevented the gizmos communicating

Excellent  :y

I switched energy companies soon after anyway. Now, nice and simple enter meter readings online every few months
