misting up inside & CC bulb
« on: 12 February 2008, 00:17:08 »

Hi folks, just re-registered after 2 years in the cold. Here I am with a couple of Q's allready.

'99 pre-facelift cd.

Climate on/off switch, bulb has packed up,new switch or new bulb?

Serious misting up INSIDE over night in cold weather, after nice sunny day---blocked CC drain? Pollen filter box etc clean & dry. Not losing coolant.

Been through the forums but so far havn,t turned up anything.

on/off switch will be the bulb. Change all 5 bulbs when you do ;)
Not sure about misting up, are the carpets dry? Are the sunroof drains clear? have you checked both scuttle drains are clear?
are you running a/c before you switch of engine?

......

The 5 lamps mention are for the backlighting of the centre section of dash - the on/off lamp(led) is integral to the switch. You need another switch.

Can you describe exactly what switch you mean.....is it the LED on the climate panel, is it the back lgihting of the switches on the climate panel or is it the bulb in the ECO button?

As for misting.

1) Check the scuttle drain to ensure its clear so no water can get in.

2) Consider the fact that when you use the aircon setup you get moisture forming on the condensator. SOme of this will drip off and out the drain near the gearbox but, turn the car off and any left wil remain and can evaporate off into the cabin area.

A trick for getting around number 2 is to run the heater on max hot towards the screen for the last few miles of a journey to dry the condensator out.

The bulb in question IS the ECO switch. So its a new switch then !!

Checked both scuttles, both clean and dry. There is no dampness in the carpets so its more than likely from the CC element in the heater assembly area collecting condenstae.

With the bulb in the switch gone the only way to tell if the CC is on/off is by listening for the fans cutting out.

thanks

You can open the switch and get replacement inserts with the two bulbs on from here:

OSR = Off Side Rear

Just inside boot, drivers side, the little cubby hole on the right ... DON'T fill it with cloths, gloves, hats, scarves, paper etc etc  thats where the air exhaust is .. if the air can't escape then humidity builds up resulting in misting .. :(

Mine suffers from inside misting. Worst @ bottom of rear screen, heated window clears it but comes back overnight. No mould thankfully. Windscreen get misty but clears quickly with blowers, no heated front screen only a CD.
Pushed finger through holes under bonnet near bulkhead so why? ::)  No damp in boot or carpets anywhere....yet. :(
