... i have been to the usual shops and been told they dont do one past a 1999 plate?? have i been fobbed off????? :D :-? any help would be great many thanks :D

Your usual shops are quite correct. Mr Haynes didn't get around to updating the manual when the facelift cars came out and don't do one for a 2.2 AFAIK most of the major bits are similar to a 2.0 4 cylinder but obviously not everything is shared.
You'll have to keep asking here!  ;) ;) :y

The available Haynes Manual does cover the 2.2 DOHC engine.... :y
Nope. 2.0 only........but basically the same

I stand corrected, have checked, yep, 2.0L SOHC and 2.0L DOHC which is where I was getting mixed up... ::)

The Haynes manual for the Omega will be OK Janine. As already stated, mechanically the 2.0 & 2.2 are basically the same. Any questions you can`t find answers to just ask on here :y

I'll get my coat... ::)

Is the 2.2 in the vectra b basically the same lump then? Obviously some ejit put it in the wrong way round, though that's hardly the engines' fault. :-/

Vectra 2.2 petrol uses the same engine as the Astra, a different lump to the Omega 2.2 petrol.

I'm sure I've learnt some things today. Trouble is, I think I have forgotten something else in the process ;D

Okies ... going round to Janine's tomorrow afternoon to have a try .. but I know little about the 2.2 (other than 2 pots are missing ..  :) )

Obviously the first thing is to read/clear any codes and see what we find but given the fault description...

Was running fine then just stopped and now won't start, fuel and spark both appear to be present .... would I be a mile off thinking camsensor ?? Is the 2.2 the same as the V6 cranksensor in that it can fail and give no code ??

Printed off this one :  http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1269023974 so might just do a visual inspection on the camsensor wiring

I don't want to be rushing off buying bits without solid reasons for doing so.

Appears the AA man said cranksensor .. but from what I've read they are fairly bullet proof on the 2.2 ??

jamesV6 had a look and they "think" he found a TPS code ?? Any quick fixes for those ??

I think I'll take Daz's and Pete's mobile numbers with me in case I need to yell for help ... anyone else who knows the 2.2 well and will be sitting around tomorrow afternoon and who wishes to act as a "help line" .... please PM your contact numbers !!!

All thoughts and suggestions gratefully accepted .. :)

First you need to ascertain whether fuel/spark is actually present to rule out crank sensor. If fuel is present is power getting to coilpack.
Cam sensor wouldn`t cause engine to just die.
Cam sensor failure, car would still start eventually.
TPS, car would still idle.
