Strange Alarm Problem
« on: 31 August 2007, 00:15:22 »

HI, i'm sorry to be a pain, i've read all the posts on alarms and can't seem to find one that matches my problem so i hope someone can help,
When i lock the car by remote the indicator lights do not flash nor does any internal lights to show any alarm is activated however the central locking works fine as do the deadlocks.
the last week or so the alarm horn (beep beep beep etc) has been going off whenever it wants to usually at night so i have ruled out the hot bonnet fault as mentioned in the forum. the alarm will stop when click open on remote but when i lock it again it may go off again shortly afterwards. sometimes it may just go off for one alarm cycle other times it keeps going for 2-3 or 4 cycles.
Does anyone have any ideas before the neighbours come after my blood??
Regards,

It would be worth unplugging the bonnet sensor just to rule it out.

Failing that, does it still go off if you press the alarm button on the dash before locking to disable the ultrasonics?

The power sounder under the scuttle panel on the driver's side is a common problem and can just be disconnected. The main sounder is under here as well, if you need to keep it quiet until resolved.

The door switches are another possibility so it may be worth taking each of these out and spraying with a little switch cleaner.

Codes can be read out of the alarm to tell you exactly what has triggered it so it may be worth getting it on a Tech2 to see what's been going on.

No, there won't be any 'fireworks' so to speak, but it disables the ultrasonic sensors inside the car. (not sure if it would silence the alarm though).

You don't have a small dog living on the back seat or somebody tied up in the boot then?  ;D

There's a few of em away this weekend that may be able to help but i'd be having a cheeky check of that bonnet switch first. There have also been a few horror stories of the state of the 'power sounder'. The backup batteries can fail prematurely (which may sound the alarm?) and the innards can corrode with moisture. They are a 'sealed' unit though.

Does it go off during the day then? It is a concern that the indicators don't flash when locking though  :-? Even when deadlocked?

hi, no it doesn't concern me about the indicators not flashing etc i just thought i had no alarm on this car when i got it because of no indication. i've had the car 6 months or so and this is only just started to happen. as for the button on dash it does not light up or anything when pressed to indicate the sensors inside have been de-activated.
I think it sounds like on pay day i'll have to drop it into the local vauxhall dealers to get it checked out, or there is a specialist in car audio and alarms near me deals with fitting thatcham etc should i take it to him first???
any ideas?

Had exactly the same on mine and on my wife's Astra. Changed the car battery and within a couple of days all back to normal and not having to sleep with one ear open for the alarm.

Check that your battery is not packing in.

Only GLS spec comes without alarm. The indicators should flash. Suppose the main battery could be changed but the alarm should still work correctly and be 'backed up' irrespective  :-?

He'll probably try and sell you a new system and not want to get invloved in the current scenario. I would be very inclined to try and sort out the existing problem.
